Sam Pittman could be in his last year as the head coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks. But that's not a secret, especially if you ask the fan base. They will all say he should have been fired last season, but the university sees something in Pittman.
They think this year could be huge for the program. For Pittman's sake, it has to be huge for the program. If it's not, he will for sure be gone. So, he's doing his due diligence in the transfer portal, and the recruiting isn't too bad either, as the Hogs currently sit at 29th for their 2025 class and 29th for their 2026 class, with improvements still needing to be made.
But, on Saturday, the Hogs got some great news in terms of recruiting that will surely help them this upcoming season. They just got a defensive weapon that's pretty underrated.
Julian Neal has committed to the Razorbacks through the transfer portal.
Julian Neal, a 6’2”, 200-pound cornerback, was a top transfer in the 2025 spring portal. From San Francisco, he played at Fresno State from 2021 to 2024, redshirting his first year and seeing limited action in 2022. In 2024, he started four games, recording 35 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, one sack, and six pass breakups.
His standout performance in the 2024 New Mexico Bowl boosted his stock. Neal initially transferred to Stanford in December 2024 but re-entered the portal after Stanford fired head coach Troy Taylor.
With one year of eligibility left, Neal drew interest from over a dozen Power Four schools, including Auburn, Florida State, USC, and Syracuse. He visited Syracuse and Virginia but committed to Arkansas on April 19, 2025.
Ranked as the No. 4 cornerback and No. 70 overall transfer by 247Sports, Neal’s size, physicality, and ball skills make him a valuable addition. He should strengthen the Arkansas secondary, which ranked mid-tier in the SEC for interceptions last season and as a unit as a whole. The pass defense was fine, but now it could be even better.
