Up until Thursday morning, the Texas Longhorns were home to the biggest question in college football. Well, kind of.
With three-year starting quarterback Quinn Ewers off to the NFL, everyone in the country has been well aware that Arch Manning would take over for him. In fact, Texas fans have been dreaming of the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning being behind center from the moment he set foot on campus.
However, head coach Steve Sarkisian clearly wanted Manning to sit and learn, and now he has two years of experience in the system and a couple of starts under his belt. Two things that should help him thrive as the starter in 2025. While most coaches would play into the charade that there's going to be a competition, Sarkisian went ahead and named Manning the starter on Thursday.
On the "Up & Adams" show with Kay Adams, Sarkisian initially danced around the question, saying that it would be "pretty tough" for him not to name Manning the starter. He also went as far as to say he feels "pretty good" about Manning being "the guy."
However, when Adams made Sarkisian give her an elevator pitch on why she should be a Texas fan, Adams poked fun at the fact that Sarkisian wouldn't say Manning was the starter. A comment that led to him saying they had Manning, which then saw Adams confirm if Manning was the starter, which led to Sarkisian giving in.
"Sure, sure," Sarkisian said. "We'll give you that, we'll give you that Kay."
While Adams celebrated the news breaking on her show, Sarkisian revealed that she for sure has to root for Texas now that he gave her that nugget.
"So now you have to come (be a fan)," Sarkisian said. "There was your recruiting pitch."
While there is plenty of excitement around Manning, Texas will have plenty of changes on offense. The Longhorns lost four out of their five starting offensive linemen, and all three of their leading pass catchers to the NFL. The Longhorns, of course, reloaded with the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, and also have a slew of blue-chippers ready for their time to shine.
Although it remains a question to see who will slide into those roles, the Longhorns do now have Manning behind center.
