In the first quarter, it was the Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards show. The duo racked up 174 yards on the ground and Donovan Edwards found pay dirt twice. Then, things went a little stale for Michigan, all the way until about seven or eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. That's when Corum did what Corum does. The senior running back found the end zone from 12 yards out giving Michigan a 27-13 lead that it would not relinquish. Towards the end of the fourth, Corum found the end zone again, this time from a yard out, sealing Michigan's win. Overall, Edwards and Corum both went over 100 yards rushing, which had never happened in a College Football Playoff final before.
On the other side of the ball, Jesse Minter's unit was up to the challenge yet again. Yes, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. found some of his talented receivers at times, but overall, it was the Heisman finalist's third-lowest yardage output of the season at just 255 yards and he also threw two interceptions. The Wolverine front seven bothered Penix just enough throughout the course of four quarters to keep him in check. Holding Washington to just 13 points is a tough, tough thing to do, but that's exactly what the U-M defense did.
And now, the Michigan Wolverines are your kings of the college football world. Despite all the weirdness surrounding the program this year, Jim Harbaugh and Co. just went an astonishing 15-0, beat Ohio State AGAIN, won another Big Ten title, vanquished Alabama in overtime in the Rose Bowl and handed Washington its first loss of the year en route to an uncontested national title. It's great, to be, a Michigan Wolverine.
