The USC Trojans, a program steeped in college football history, are generating considerable anticipation for the 2025 season, and analyst Josh Pate is among those taking notice. On a recent episode of “Josh Pate’s College Football Show,” Pate shared his observations from a visit to USC, describing a palpable sense of confidence within the program.
“They walk around as if they already ordered something and they know it’s arriving in the mail tomorrow,” Pate said, drawing a parallel between the Trojans’ demeanor and that of perennial powerhouses such as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
According to Pate, this confidence is not merely superficial. He believes the Trojans are on the verge of a significant breakthrough, going so far as to predict their inclusion in this year’s College Football Playoff picture.
“I think they’re there. I have very little doubt about that,” he stated, suggesting that the team’s self-assurance is rooted in tangible potential.
According to On3, USC is the 15th-ranked program nationally and 5th in the Big 10 heading into the 2025 season. Head coach Lincoln Riley has already named the team’s front runner to take over for Miller Moss. With Connor Morrisette of USCFootball.com reporting, Riley said, “Jayden Maiava is clearly USC’s top QB right now.”
Pate’s analysis adds an element of intrigue, posing the question: “Either it’s all false bravado… or they’re on to something and you’re just about to find out.”
For Trojan fans, this wave of optimism represents a welcome shift after a period marked by inconsistency, but the Riley era has always brought with it loft airs that have failed to satisfy.
With a talented roster and a program radiating playoff-caliber energy, the Trojans may be poised to reclaim their position among college football’s elite.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans to determine whether this “vibe” translates into on-field success and a coveted College Football Playoff berth.
