Madison, WI - The Wisconsin football season came to a crashing halt in its regular season finale. With a 24-7 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Badgers head coach Luke Fickell's second season in Madison came to an unceremonious end, along with UW's streak of 22 consecutive winning seasons

In his first two offseasons in Madison, the former Cincinnati Bearcats head coach brought 31 total recruits from the transfer portal. With a 5-7 season in the rearview mirror, Fickell will need all the help he can get to right the ship.

If those last two winters are any indication, college football transfer portal season will surely be a whirlwind again for Wisconsin Badgers fans.

Wisconsin Football Players Entering the Transfer Portal

Class of 2023 quarterback Cole LaCrue won the race to become the first Badger to declare their intent to transfer. With his announcement on November 20th, shortly after Fickell dismissed offensive coordinator Phil Longo, the Broomfield, Colorado native said he would enter the transfer portal when it officially opens on Monday, December 9th.

The period for players to enter the portal runs from December 9th through Saturday, December 28th. Several players are expected to announce their departures before the portal officially opens.

Two Wisconsin Badgers Defensive Players Enter Portal

Within four hours of each other on December 1st, linebacker Leon Lowery and cornerback Amare Snowden announced their intent to transfer.

Lowery and Snowdwn both leave Madison without having made much of an impact on defense. Lowery was brought in to become an immediate starter on defense. However, after one season at UW, in which the former Syracuse standout recorded only one sack, he will be most remembered for the saga of his recruitment.

Snowden followed Fickell and Wisconsin defensive coordinator Mike Tressel from Cincinnati to Madison. The big-bodied defensive back was initially committed to the Bearcats but flipped to the Badgers as part of Fickell's first recruiting class at Wisconsin. After a redshirt season in 2023 and appearing in only two games in 2024, however, the Michigan native is moving on.
