In the ongoing IPL season, BCCI slapped Punjab Kings’ Glenn Maxwell with a 25% fine on his match fees. Maxwell breached the IPL Code of Conduct in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, during the match against Chennai Super Kings.

Punjab Kings chose to bat after winning the toss. Priyansh Arya scored 103 runs off 42 balls, hitting seven boundaries and nine sixes. Shashank Singh contributed 52 runs off 35 balls, while Marco Jansen added 34 runs off 19 balls. They posted a competitive total of 219/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, CSK’s Devon Conway scored 69, Shivam Dube added 42, and MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 27, but Punjab restricted their opponents to 201/5, claiming victory by 18 runs. On the second ball, CSK's Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Australian batter Glenn Maxwell, who managed to score only one run.

In their previous four matches, Punjab Kings have emerged victorious in three, and Maxwell has only contributed 30 runs. In the game against the Gujarat Titans, Maxwell recorded a first-ball duck. The Punjab Kings currently sit in fourth place with six points on the standings table.

“Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offense under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the match) and accepted the match referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” read the statement released by the IPL.

The BCCI has been thorough in 2025 and seeks to enforce a disciplined match standard. Maxwell was also given one demerit point in addition to the penalty. Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, and Digvesh Singh are among the other players who have been penalized for breaking the code of conduct or for having slow pace over rates.

The Punjab Kings will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad on 12th April at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
