20 films from the 2000s that are so bad they’re good

The dialogue, the dark aesthetic, basically the whole premise — there’s a whole lot to hate about Twilight, but that’s what makes it so good. We can’t blame any actors who’ve blocked the film out of their minds, but we can’t get it out of ours. 

Whether you loved it, hated it, hated to love it, or loved to hate it, Brüno made you feel a certain way. Some found Sacha Baron Cohen brilliant and boundary-pushing, while others found him grating, childish, and offensive. Either way, everyone knows who starred in this so-bad-it’s-good film.  

Beyoncé , Idris Elba, and Ali Larter in a film together? How could that go wrong? So much of this movie misses, but if you put aside the cheesy tone and Lifetime quality, there are redeeming parts. There’s no reason to be obsessed with Obsessed, but you can love to hate it.

Superhero films are so often beloved that it seems they’re hard to screw up, but Catwoman is the clear exception to the rule. It’s been called one of the worst movies of all time by more than a few people, but a superhero flick starring Halle Berry makes it good enough for others. 

We learned through Crossroads that Britney Spears shouldn’t act, and she probably learned that lesson. Despite that lesson, we have a piece of iconography in Crossroads — a film that critics absolutely hated but starred three of the era's brightest stars. 

The Butterfly Effect is another film where people easily overlook its flaws thanks to its entertainment value. Cinephiles will critique its direction and performances, but more casual audiences will find it a good watch anyway. 

There’s an argument to be made that Scooby-Doo should’ve never become a live-action film in the first place. Despite having a ridiculous plot and not being nearly as good as any animated version of the story, the live-action Scooby-Doo has become a yearly Halloween rewatch for many. 

Night at the Museum is a wild ride from start to finish. The idea is fantastical and fun, and that’s what makes it entertaining despite its obvious flaws. And who are we to criticize a film that features Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd, Dıck Van Dyke, and Robin Williams?

Wild Child didn’t win any awards, but this Emma Roberts feature is still a favorite for many. While there may be an element of nostalgia to that stance, the fact remains: Wild Child is so bad it’s good. 

So much about Bee Movie doesn’t make sense, but that’s what’s so great about it. It’s also a lot easier to get away with a nonsensical film when it’s animated. If Bee Movie had been live-action, it would’ve been discarded with no second thought. 

Meet the Spartans was absolutely obliterated by critics; movie reviewers didn’t find this film to be worthwhile in the slightest. The parody genre historically has not been well-received, but that just might be part of this film’s charm. 

Fans of Jennifer’s Body will fight to the death that this film was ahead of its time and criminally underrated when it was released. Others will just think it was bad. Either way, most watchers got at least some enjoyment out of Jennifer’s Body, making this campy film so bad it’s good. 

Eddie Murphy can do no wrong in the eyes of many, including The Haunted Mansion. Creating films based on Disney World rides has only been widely successful with Pirates of the Caribbean, but The Haunted Mansion is a close second for some, thanks to Murphy. 

The Dukes of Hazzard does not live up to the series from which it was adapted, but many continue to look past its errors and appreciate it for what it is: dumb comedy that’s easy to watch and laugh at. It’s not Oscar-worthy, but it’s not a complete waste of time. 

The premise of Snakes on a Plane is hard to take seriously. There’s absolutely no chance that would happen in real life. But those who love it suspend their disbelief and relish in Samuel L. Jackson yelling about snakes being on a plane. 

We want to know who thought it was necessary to have the first two finalists of American Idol star in a movie together. It’s clear why neither Justin nor Kelly went on to have acting careers of any sort. Nevertheless, it’s a favorite for many, mostly because it’s so ridiculous. 

Most people who watched The Wicker Man thought it was bad, but upon rewatching, they found some redeeming qualities. Nicolas Cage, however, thinks it’s his best movie to date. There are plenty of dissenters, but why argue with Nic Cage?

The Love Guru was not well-received when it first came out, and in retrospect, many find it more than a bit racist. Still, some regard it as a guilty pleasure, finding its humor simple and a good choice when needing a mindless movie. 

Everyone wanted Shrek the Third to be good, but it wasn't if we’re being honest with ourselves. It was by far the worst of all the Shrek films. However, it’s still a Shrek film, and a bad Shrek film is better than no Shrek film at all. 

Is there anything more intoxicating than Nicolas Cage saying, “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence”? Okay, yes, there are many things, but Cage’s delivery of that line is iconic. The entire film is implausible and largely based on conspiracy theories, but that makes it so epic.
