2019's 25 most-anticipated album releases

A new year will soon arrive, and 2019's going to bring a whole lot of good music along for the ride. Flip through the gallery below for a look at the year's most anticipated album releases, including long-awaited ones from Rihanna, Tool, Adele and more, along with a slew of new albums to get excited about, like those from Dua Lipa and Migos.

Dua Lipa

After the incredible success of her 2017 self-titled debut, Dua Lipa is set to make 2019 an even bigger year with the release of her forthcoming sophomore album. Dua Lipa hasn’t revealed much about the record but has said on Twitter that she’s settled on a title, and she’s been hard at work on new music throughout much of the year.

Meghan Trainor

Originally set for a summer 2018 debut, pop singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor pushed back the release of her new album, "Treat Myself," because she wanted to add more songs. Multiple singles from the record, including “No Excuses” and “Can’t Dance,” were released in 2018. The 17-song effort is out on Jan. 25 via Epic Records.

Weezer

On March 1, ‘90s alt-rock icons Weezer will release their 12th full-length album, dubbed “The Black Album.” It will feature the singles “Can’t Knock The Hustle,” and “Zombie Bastards,” both released in late fall 2018. In support of the album, Weezer will kick off a North American tour alongside fellow ‘90s rockers the Pixies in Louisville, Kentucky on March 8.

Lana Del Rey

No release date has been set just yet, but Lana Del Rey’s much-anticipated "Norman F***ing Rockwell" is expected to arrive sometime in the first half of 2019. The artist’s sixth full-length album features tracks produced by hitmaker Jack Antonoff, indie-rock darling St. Vincent and Taylor Swift. Reportedly, the album will stay in keeping with Del Rey’s trademark beachy sound but with a decidedly more upbeat vibe.

Dido

English pop sensation Dido will release "Still On My Mind" in May 2019, her much-anticipated fifth full-length album. The 12-track effort was recorded and written at the artist’s home in England alongside her brother, Rollo, and is the follow-up to Dido’s 2013 comeback album, "Girl Who Got Away." She’ll head out on tour in Europe in mid-2019 in support of the record.

The 1975

Just months after releasing their most recent album "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" in November, indie darlings The 1975 are set to put out even more new music in 2019. Titled "Notes on a Conditional Form," the album has been mysteriously described by the band as a “nighttime record,” whatever that means, and is expected to arrive in June 2019. According to The 1975 manager Jamie Oborne, it’s likely that fans will hear a single from the album in February.

Maren Morris

In 2019, Maren Morris will return with the much-anticipated follow-up to her 2016 debut, "Hero." Morris confirmed that the album is complete and has been approved by her label in November and will feature two songs written by her husband and fellow artist, Ryan Hurd. An official title or release date have not been announced, but Morris has repeatedly referred to the project as “MM2,” and she previewed a couple of songs from the record at recent concerts.

Adele

Ever mysterious, it’s possible that pop icon Adele will release new music in 2019. The singer committed to a 2019 release for the as-yet-untitled album, for which she’s already written at least a few songs. It’ll be her first since 2015’s smash "25" and will likely not be named for her age like previous records. In an episode of Carpool Karaoke, Adele told host James Corden that the album could simply be titled Adele.

Taylor Swift

At the 2018 American Music Awards, Taylor Swift whipped her legions of fans into a frenzy by teasing a mysterious new album that could possibly debut in 2019. Fans have used intricate conspiracy theories to deduce that Swift has been working on her seventh full-length release in Australia, but Swift hasn’t yet confirmed any details on the project. She did, though, sign a major new record deal with Universal Music Group for an undisclosed sum, which indicates that new work is on the way.

Rihanna

Rihanna keeps her cards so close to the vest that it’s hard to tell what’s coming next, but it’s possible that the R&B sensation could release two albums in the next year. The first is a dancehall record that’s been in the works for more than a year, and the second is a pop album. Details are scarce, but fans are hopeful that new music from her will (finally) debut in 2019.

The Weeknd

In early November, The Weeknd announced that the much-anticipated follow-up to 2016’s "Starboy" would hit shelves in 2019. No official release date has been set, but The Weeknd told fans at a recent concert that he’s been hard at work on the record, which is reportedly titled "Chapter VI."

Kanye West

Originally set for a 2018 debut, ever-eccentric rapper Kanye West has pushed back the release of his new album, "Yandhi," twice so that he could go record in Africa. It’s possible that late rapper XXXTentacion could have a feature verse on "Yandhi," as West says that he recorded bars for a song before his death in 2018.

Madonna

In yet another evolution for Madonna, the global pop star will release her 14th album in 2019. Details on the record, the follow-up to 2015’s "Rebel Heart," are scant at present. But the album is expected to feature a great deal of Portuguese influence thanks to Madonna's recent move to Lisbon.

Backstreet Boys

Classic ‘00s boy band Backstreet Boys will make a comeback in 2019 with the release of their much-anticipated album "DNA," set for release on Jan. 25. The new release comes on the heels of the band’s successful residency in Las Vegas and will be accompanied by the "DNA" World Tour, kicking off in Washington, D.C. on July 12, 2019.

Bastille

Indie-pop hitmakers Bastille have a busy 2019 in store, with plans to possibly release two albums. The first is a full-length effort called "Doom Days," announced by the band at a show in the U.K. earlier this year. There are also a live album and a mixtape in the works, along with a pretty intense touring schedule in 2019. No release date for "Doom Days" has been set, but fans are eagerly awaiting its release.

Vampire Weekend

Fans have been waiting since 2013 for a new Vampire Weekend record, and it looks like 2019 just might be the year. In September, the band confirmed that the record was completed this summer, and frontman Ezra Koenig has said that the album will be titled "Mitsubishi Macchiato." It’s possible that Kanye West could even make a cameo — Koenig recorded with the rapper in Mexico.

J. Balvin & Bad Bunny

After Bad Bunny and J. Balvin separately made major waves in the American music scene in 2018, Latin music’s hottest stars will team up for a joint album in 2019. Titled "Oasis," no release date for the duo effort has been released, but fans can expect a breezy album intended as a “rescue” for listeners, according to Bad Bunny.

Carly Rae Jepsen

“Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen has transformed from bubble-gum novelty to pop royalty, and that ascent is expected to continue in 2019 with the release of her first full-length album since 2015’s "Emotion." No title or release date have been announced yet, but the album’s first single, “Party For One,” premiered in November 2018.

Set for release in early 2019, juggernaut rap trio Migos will release "Culture III." It’s the follow-up to the band’s wildly successful 2018 album, "Culture II" and comes after the release of Quavo’s newest solo album, "Quavo Huncho." No official details on which rap superstars will appear alongside Migos on the record, but it’s likely that Offset’s wife, Cardi B, will have at least one verse.

Tim McGraw

Country titan Tim McGraw will release his first album in two years in 2019. The album’s lead single, titled “Neon Church,” hit the airwaves in October, but it’s unclear whether or not that will be the album’s title. McGraw hasn’t dropped many details on his forthcoming album, but he has said that fans can expect a more “diverse” sound than they’ve heard in the past.

The Raconteurs

Frontman Jack White will bring back the Raconteurs in 2019 for their first release since 2008’s "Consolers of the Lonely." The new record was announced in October, and White’s been tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the band’s first effort in eight years.

Tool fans have been patiently waiting for a new album from the elusive alt-rock band for 11 years, and it looks like they will finally get their wish in 2019. Secretive frontman Maynard James Keenan has confirmed that the album will come out next year, and listeners can expect that every song will be upward of 10 minutes long

On March 8, English pop singer-songwriter David Gray will release "Gold in a Brass Age," his 11th studio album. It’s Gray’s first release since 2014’s "Mutineers" and will be accompanied by a world tour of the same name that will kick off in the United Kingdom on March 15.

French electro-pop super-producer DJ Snake will return with a new album in 2019 despite plans to call it quits after his massive 2015 debut, "Encore." The new album doesn’t have a title or release date yet, but it’s possible that it will include “Taki Taki,” DJ Snake’s recent collaboration with Selena Gomez and Cardi B.

Pop star in the making Becky G has reportedly been working on two albums — one in Spanish, one in English — but it’s not clear which album will drop first. Earlier this year, the singer said that the Spanish record will have lots of reggaeton influence, while the English album will have more of an urban R&B vibe.
