Avatar 6 and 7 Teased by James Cameron

The future of Avatar is in safe hands. Not only has director James Cameron already written the third, fourth and fifth movies, he’s got ideas for Avatar 6 and 7 too.

Speaking with People, Cameron says, “We're fully written through movie five, and I've got ideas for six and seven.”

That’s a long way off, however, with Cameron admitting he probably won’t be around to see the story unfold.

“I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” he continues. “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we're enjoying what we're doing. We're loving it. We get to work with great people.”

Previously, Cameron said that Avatar 3 is “pretty much in the can,” with Avatar 4 similarly close to finished - the two were filmed back to back.

Avatar’s third movie, which doesn’t have a name yet, is expected to hit theaters in 2025. Avatar 4 will likely follow in 2029, and Avatar 5 in 2031.
