Marvel Studios ‘Thunderbolts*’ just like all of its other upcoming projects, remains shrouded in secrecy. Naturally, fans are buzzing about what’s in store for this unique team of antiheroes.
One mystery at the heart of the project is the role played by Geraldine Viswanathan, best known for her performances in ‘Drive Away Dolls’. In an interview, the actress described her role as terrifying.
Replacing ‘The Bear’ star Ayo Edebiri, Geraldine Viswanathan steps into the MCU spotlight as the assistant to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ power-hungry Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. While she remained tight-lipped about the specifics of her character during a recent interview with Empire, she did hint at the sheer scale and intensity of her MCU debut.
“The scale of that was ridiculous and terrifying in a new way,” she said, describing one particularly daunting scene. “It was like, ‘Oh, there are 500 extras and a helicopter in this scene, so I’d better not [frick] up my line.’” For an actress stepping into the Marvel universe, it’s easy to understand the pressure. Moreover, fans have been speculating that Viswanathan’s character, Mel, could be Melissa Gold.
Better known as Songbird the character is a key member of the Thunderbolts in the comics. While she didn’t confirm or deny this theory, her description of working alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus suggests her character may have a pivotal role. “She is the actual queen,” Viswanathan gushed. “I call her the most perfect person in America. It was insane to work with her and then be watching puppy videos together.”
As Marvel fans eagerly anticipate the ‘Thunderbolts*’ movie, another major development is brewing in the comics. The original Thunderbolts team is making a return, sparking speculation about their connection to the MCU. The team, originally introduced as villains under the guise of heroes, has undergone numerous transformations.
However, the classic lineup remains iconic, largely due to their origins as the Masters of Evil. In the upcoming ‘Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #3’, the team will face off against a new version of the Thunderbolts led by Bucky Barnes. Adding to the intrigue, the original team seems to have been recruited by none other than Doctor Doom.
Moreover, what makes this comic event even more exciting is its potential impact on the MCU. With the Thunderbolts movie slated to introduce a fresh team led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, fans are wondering if the original team could make a surprise appearance. Could this comic arc be laying the groundwork for future MCU tie-ins?
