Mark Ruffalo has confirmed his long-rumored Hulk movie is not happening.

During a Q&A at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday, 11 February, Ruffalo answered questions about his portrayal of Hulk.

At one point he pitched an arc to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, in which Bruce Banner and his savage alter-ego, Hulk, find a way to co-exist.

“I said, ‘I’d like to take him from this raging maniac to this integrated character,'” Ruffalo reveals. “And he said, ‘OK, we’ll do that over the course of four movies. We’ll never give you a standalone “Hulk.”‘”

It’s the first time Ruffalo, or anyone at Marvel, has publicly shot down the idea of a standalone Hulk movie. Ruffalo continued, “I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble, but that’s not happening.”

You'll have to take his word for it, unless you want to end up on his bad side. Remember, Mark Ruffalo slapped Channing Tatum and burst his eardrum.

As for Ruffalo’s next Hulk appearance? There were reports he’s set to appear in the fourth Captain America film, titled Captain America: Brave New World, but that’s based on a misunderstanding.

Variety claims the actor misspoke when acknowledging the moderator's question at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

“Alas, according to multiple sources, Ruffalo is not actually going to be in Brave New World,” writes Variety. “Instead, he misspoke, thinking he was agreeing that Brave New World is one of Marvel’s next films, not that he was going to be in it.”

Captain America: Brave New World comes to theaters February 14, 2025.
