'John Wick: Chapter 4' gets new 2023 release date

Fans were served a dose of Keanu Reeves on Wednesday (Dec. 22) with the highly anticipated release of The Matrix Resurrections, but they'll have to wait a while to see him as the titular hitman in John Wick: Chapter 4.

Lionsgate has announced that the film will release in theaters March 24, 2023, instead of May 27, 2022:

Reeves debuted as Neo in The Matrix in 1999 and reprised the iconic role for The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003) before the franchise was revived with Resurrections. In the time between Matrix movies, Reeves fronted yet another franchise in John Wick. The first film premiered in 2014, followed by John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) and John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019).

Per Variety, three John Wick films have earned over $584.9 million at the box office globally, with $327 million of that coming from Parabellum.

There is also a fifth John Wick installment in the works, though it has no release date.
