Ahead of the Super Bowl, sports personality Skip Bayless made headlines when he alleged the NFL sent an apology letter to Lil Wayne after he wasn't selected to perform the halftime show in his native New Orleans.
“A letter that thanked him for his years of supporting the league, not just the Packers — his favorite team — but supporting and promoting the NFL, in general, which he has," Bayless said at the time.
He later added that Wayne wouldn't be watching a single second of the halftime show, but will be tuned in for the game. "But, he will not play Sunday’s halftime show, and he definitely won’t watch a second of Sunday’s halftime show," Bayless said.
In a new column from the U.S. Sun, not only did the NFL confirm an apology was sent to Wayne, but the league also has regrets over picking Lamar for the halftime show. According to the report, the NFL regrets its decision to give Jay-Z and Roc Nation too much control over the halftime show.
"The same kind of mistake won’t ever happen again," the source said. "That is what happens when you give too much power and responsibility to one person. There are many people in the NFL that want to see some changes. They didn't like this year's halftime show and the way it happened."
The "mistake" now has the NFL looking to make a "change" after the show on Sunday night.
"We will push for change, as we don't want to experience this kind of thing next season," the source said. "The tension linked with Kendrick made us regret giving him the green light. I'm not the only one who thinks this way."
Lamar's performance broke Michael Jackson's record for the most-watched halftime show ever, with over 133 million viewers tuning in.
