Predicting the 2019 Latin American Music Award winners

Latin music has evolved over time with artists using genres such as salsa, mariachi, cumbia, and bachata, to the newer generations infusing more trap, hip-hop and reggaeton sounds. Artists have combined traditional and cultural music with urban sounds that have allowed them to cross over in fan bases and grow Latin music at a striking rate.

In its fifth year, the Latin American Music Awards honors some of today's most popular and influential artists in the Latin music scene. Similar to the traditional American Music Awards format, the Latin AMA nominees are based on fan interactions with the music including streams, airplay, sales and social media trends. The winners are then chosen from fan votes.

With Ozuna leading the night with nine nominations, the reggaeton singer is sure to be a fan favorite, among others. Before the 2019 Latin American Music Awards airs on Thursday, Oct. 17, check out our predictions for this year's winners.
