Harry Styles said it best when he told Cameron Crowe the following for a Rolling Stone cover story unveiled in April of this year.
"Who's to say that young girls who like popular music - short for popular right? - have worse musical taste than a 30-year-old hipster guy?" he asked.
"That's not up to you to say. Music is something that's always changing. There's no goal posts. Young girls like the Beatles. You gonna tell me they're not serious? How can you say young girls don't get it?
"They're our future - our future doctors, lawyers, mothers, presidents, they kind of keep the world going. Teenage-girl fans - they don't lie. If they like you, they're there. They don't act 'too cool'. They like you, and they tell you. Which is sick."
Of course this is all applicable to young boys, too. And this is especially applicable when discussing the Teen Choice Awards. Click through to preview the categories up for grabs at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards this Sunday, August 13, on FOX.
(List of nominees thanks to The Hollywood Reporter.)
For the most part, this is the category of blockbuster franchises:
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," "The Fate of the Furious" (the 10 millionth iteration of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise), "Transformers: The Last Knight," "Logan" (the latest X-Men chronicle with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine), "Wonder Woman" (Gal Gadot's introduction to the world as Wonder Woman, which has crossed $400 million at the box office domestically), and "xXx: Return of Xander Cage."
So, take your pick as to which movie will win. Since we're in the game of predictions, "Logan" and "Wonder Woman" (subjectively) are the best of this crop. I'll go "Wonder Woman" because it's the first film of its kind.
Nominated for Choice Action Movie Actor are: Brenton Thwaites ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"), Chris Pine ("Wonder Woman"), Dwayne Johnson ("The Fate of the Furious"), Hugh Jackman ("Logan"), Johnny Depp ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"), and Vin Diesel ("The Fate of the Furious", "xXx: Return of Xander Cage").
See: previous slide. Everything said there still applies. However, The Rock is The Rock (Dwayne Johnson for President!). So I'm riding with him.
Nominated for Choice Action Movie Actress are Deepika Padukone ("xXx: Return of Xander Cage"), Nina Dobrev ("xXx: Return of Xander Cage"), Ruby Rose ("xXx: Return of Xander Cage"), Michelle Rodriguez ("The Fate of the Furious"), Kaya Scodelario ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales") and Gal Gadot ("Wonder Woman").
The odds are in the women of Xander Cage's favor.
Pictured above is Gadot, who is the woman of the hour, and officially predicted by this semi-unqualified prognosticator to win this.
"The Edge of Seventeen " (starring Hailee Steinfeld alongside Woody Harrelson and dubbed by Vanity Fair to be "the best teen movie in years") seems like a dead giveaway, right? Given the demographic the *ahem* Teen Choice Awards are meant for?
Other nominees: "Before I Fall", "Everything, Everything", "Gifted", "Hidden Figures", and "The Shack".
Andrew Garfield was "The Amazing Spider-Man" (one of the most famous fictional heroes in history), and now he is nominated for his role in "Hacksaw Ridge" (as Pfc. Desmond T. Doss, an unsung real-life hero).
Then you've got Taylor Lautner, nominated for his role in "Run the Tide" but will always be seen first as a "Twilight" werewolf.
So I'm going with Kian Lawley to snag this for his role in "Before I Fall" simply because he developed first as an internet personality and social media star, and these awards are largely decided through teenagers obsessed with social media.
Other nominees: Chris Evans ("Gifted"), who is pictured above, and Nick Robinson ("Everything, Everything").
Falling in line with selecting "The Edge of Seventeen" as Choice Drama Movie, I suppose Hailee Steinfeld should also take home Choice Drama Movie Actress.
But if it's not going to be Steinfeld, it should go to Taraji P. Henson for her performance alongside Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae in "Hidden Figures." "Hidden Figures" is based on a true story about three brilliant black women who pioneered space heroes such as Neil Armstrong through their adept mathematical equations.
Other nominees: Amandla Stenberg ("Everything, Everything"), Emma Watson ("The Circle") and Zoey Deutch ("Before I Fall" ).
The Ellen Effect gives this to "Finding Dory." Both "Dory" and its predecessor, "Finding Nemo", really nail that sweet spot that appeals to viewers young and old.
Other nominees: "Cars 3", "Keeping Up with the Joneses", "Table 19" and "The LEGO Batman Movie."
These are all very funny men: Dwayne Johnson ("Baywatch"), Owen Wilson ("Cars 3"), Ricky Garcia ("Bigger Fatter Liar"), Will Arnett ("The LEGO Batman Movie"), Zac Efron ("Baywatch") and Zach Galifianakis ("Keeping Up with the Joneses").
Giving the slight advantage to Zac Efron because he has consistently been funny in big films targeted toward younger people such as "Neighbors", "Neighbors 2", and "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates". I don't want to be shortsighted and blanket an entire section of the population with only liking a particular genre of entertainment, but I do believe in the Zac Efron Machine.
Ellen DeGeneres is nominated for this category, therefore this award automatically belongs to Ellen DeGeneres, who is nominated for her role as Dory in the animated "Finding Dory." Is there a more universally beloved human being than Ellen? My very unscientific and imaginary poll points to that answer being no. No one else.
Not even the other worthy nominees in this category: Alexandra Daddario ("Baywatch"), Anna Kendrick ("Table 19"), Gal Gadot ("Keeping Up with the Joneses"), Jennifer Hudson ("Sandy Wexler" ) and Tori Kelly ("Sing").
Nominated for Choice Fantasy Movie are "Beauty and the Beast", "Doctor Strange", "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" and"Moana".
It's not smart to bet against "Beauty and the Beast", which has been relevant since 1991, especially since it is loosely associated with Harry Potter.
It is also not smart to bet against Disney's animated films—its latest being "Moana". So, pick your poison.
Nominated for Choice Fantasy Movie Actor are Asa Butterfield ("Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"), Benedict Cumberbatch ("Doctor Strange"), Dan Stevens ("Beauty and the Beast"), Dwayne Johnson ("Moana") and Eddie Redmayne ("Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them").
"Fantastic Beasts" is J.K. Rowling's latest work. Rowling didn't completely leave behind Harry Potter, as this movie is still set in the Wizarding World and technically takes place long before Harry Potter was born.
So, common sense says to go with Redmayne. But I'm sticking with my earlier logic: The Rock is The Rock.
Emma Watson is and will forever be Hermione Granger, which automatically gives her an advantage in anything fan-voted moving forward including this category for her performance as Belle in "Beauty and the Beast".
Seventeen-year-old Auli'i Cravalho ("Moana"), who beautifully performed "How Far I'll Go" from the movie's soundtrack at this year's Oscars, is a close second and could easily win this, too.
Other nominees include Eva Green ("Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"), Katherine Waterston ("Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them") and Rachel McAdams ("Doctor Strange").
When asked by Chelsea Handler what separates "Guardians of the Galaxy" from other fantastical comic book movies, Chris Pratt answered, "Raccoons."
Chips all in on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper, by the way) and Chris Pratt.
Other nominations in this category: "Arrival", "Kong: Skull Island", "Power Rangers", "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "The Space Between Us."
Disclaimer: "Arrival" is a very good movie, and Jeremy Renner was very good in it.
But Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2") has become the action/sci-fi movie star of the moment in a media landscape where there isn't necessarily one of anything—especially movie stars.
Other nominees: Asa Butterfield ("The Space Between Us"), Dacre Montgomery ("Power Rangers"), Diego Luna ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story") and Tom Hiddleston ("Kong: Skull Island").
Disclaimer No. 2: perhaps if Hiddleston was still dating Taylor Swift, he'd steal this.
Nominated for Choice Sci-Fi Movie Actress are Amy Adams ("Arrival"), Becky G ("Power Rangers"), Brie Larson ("Kong: Skull Island"), Felicity Jones ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"), Naomi Scott ("Power Rangers") and Zoe Saldana ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2").
Amy Adams, according to many, deserved to be nominated for an Oscar for her performance in "Arrival", which probably means she deserves a Teen Choice Award for her performance in "Arrival".
Charlize Theron made me interested in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise (she is nominated for "The Fate of the Furious", her first time included in the franchise), so in my eyes, she wins.
That does not mean, however, that Elizabeth Banks ("Power Rangers"), James McAvoy ("Split "), Javier Bardem ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"), Luke Evans ("Beauty and the Beast") or Priyanka Chopra ("Baywatch") couldn't make a stronger case and won't win.
OK, so by no measurement is Harry Styles actually a breakout star in 2017. Styles has been universally famous since One Direction's debut in 2010. But Harry Styles the independent rock star and movie actor did breakout in 2017. Relevant to this slideshow, of course, is Styles's performance in Christopher Nolan's coveted World War II film "Dunkirk".
Nolan compared casting Styles to casting Heath Ledger as The Joker. So, yes. Successful foray into film for Harry.
If Styles was not included in this category, I would give it to previously mentioned Auli'i Cravalho for her role as Moana in "Moana". Or Tom Holland—world's newest Spider-Man.
Other nominees are Deepika Padukone ("xXx: Return of Xander Cage"), Janelle Monáe ("Hidden Figures"), Tom Holland ("Spider-Man: Homecoming") and Zendaya ("Spider-Man: Homecoming").
I'm giving this to "Pretty Little Liars" as its swan song, as the series came to an official end on June 27, 2017. Every other nominee, with the exception of Empire, is a show fresh on the scene. They have time to win plenty of these awards.
Those other nominees are "Famous In Love," "Riverdale," "Star" and "This Is Us."
Same logic as the previous slide applies here. in the future, the men of "This Is Us" will probably clean up these awards (nominated this year are Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown), but this is Ian Harding's last chance for his role as Ezra Fitz in "Pretty Little Liars."
If it were up to me, however, this is Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) or Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown)'s award all day.
Every man nominated here has an equal shot, really. Jesse Williams ("Grey's Anatomy") because "Grey's Anatomy" continues to be a juggernaut and the consensus on Williams is that he is very good looking. Same goes for Jussie Smollett and "Empire." Cole Sprouse because he effectively defected from his childhood successes with a grown-up role in "Riverdale.
This is a sweep for "Pretty Little Liars" with a random nomination for Bella Thorne ("Famous In Love," which is supposed to succeed "Pretty Little Liars" on Freeform).
Nominated for this category are Ashley Benson ("Pretty Little Liars"), Lucy Hale ("Pretty Little Liars"), Sasha Pieterse ("Pretty Little Liars"), Shay Mitchell ("Pretty Little Liars") and Troian Bellisario ("Pretty Little Liars").
Everybody loves the "Stranger Things" kids. End of discussion.
Other nominees: "Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments," "Supernatural," "Teen Wolf," "The Vampire Diaries" and "Timeless."
Ian Somerhalder is a fan favorite with his good looks, steamy role on "The Vampire Diaries" (for which he is nominated) and public marriage to actress Nikki Reed. The Vampire Diaries concluded with a series finale on March 10, 2017. This award belongs to Somerhalder.
Also nominated: Bob Morley ("The 100"), Dylan O'Brien ("Teen Wolf"), Jensen Ackles ("Supernatural"), Joseph Morgan ("The Originals") and Matthew Daddario ("Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instrument").
For the same reason Ian Somerhalder is the selection for Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor, Kat Graham is the selection for Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress: bidding farewell to "The Vampire Diaries."
Also nominated is Abigail Spencer ("Timeless"), who will have a recurring role in the upcoming 14th season of "Grey's Anatomy," which will expand her profile and maybe make her a favorite for next year.
Other nominees: Eliza Taylor ("The 100"), Emeraude Toubia ("Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments"), Jennifer Morrison ("Once Upon A Time"), and Lana Parrilla (Once Upon A Time").
Of all the nominees for Choice TV Action Show, "Arrow" is the only one without a blatant link to comic books or major franchises. So I'm going with "Arrow"—yay for originals and underdogs.
Other nominees: "Gotham" has the backing of Batman. "Supergirl" is literally related to Superman. "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." tells you so in its title. "The Flash" is based on...The Flash. Also nominated is "Lethal Weapon", the FOX television series and not the famous Mel Gibson-Danny Glover buddy cop franchise.
I actually find this category interesting because several of the actors nominated have appeared, at some point, on the same shows.
Chris Wood is nominated for his role on The CW's "Supergirl," but he also has been in The CW's "The Flash."
Stephen Amell is nominated for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on The CW's "Arrow," but he has credits in "The Flash" and "Supergirl." Same goes for nominee Grant Gustin, who is nominated for "The Flash," but has been on "Supergirl" and "Arrow."
So, odds are that regardless of which actor takes this home, The CW is the true winner.
Also nominated: Clayne Crawford ("Lethal Weapon"), Gabriel Luna ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") and Wentworth Miller ("Prison Break").
Melissa Benoist, pictured here, is tasked in "Supergirl" to protect her cousin, who happens to be Superman, while maintaining her own superhero career. She deserves an award for that.
Also nominated: Caity Lotz ("Legends of Tomorrow"), Candice Patton ("The Flash"), Danielle Panabaker "The Flash"), Emily Bett Rickards ("Arrow") and Jordana Brewster ("Lethal Weapon").
Freeform's "Baby Daddy" came to a sort of abrupt end after six seasons and 100 episodes. It is the only show in this category that will not return to television.
So, I'm giving this to them sentimentally. Truth be told.
Also nominated are Andy Samberg's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," the Netflix reboot "Fuller House," "Jane the Virgin" (rated 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), "One Day at a Time" and Freeform counterpart to "Baby Daddy," "Young & Hungry."
For the same sentimental reason I just awarded "Baby Daddy" Choice Comedy Show, I officially dub Jean-Luc Bilodeau ("Baby Daddy") as Choice Comedy TV Actor.
Other worthy men nominated in this category: Andy Samberg ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), Anthony Anderson ("black-ish"), Hudson Yang ("Fresh Off the Boat"), Jaime Camil ("Jane the Virgin") and Micah Fowler ("Speechless").
Gina Rodriguez steals the screen in "Jane the Virgin." She has been named "the next big thing" and among the "top 35 Latinos under 35," by The Hollywood Reporter thanks to her work as Jane the Virgin. She deserves this award. And if you haven't watched the show, go on and start.
Other nominees: Candace Cameron Bure ("Fuller House"), Emma Roberts ("Scream Queens"), Rose McIver ("iZombie"), Yara Shahidi ("black-ish") and Zendaya ("K.C. Undercover").
So, I know I have already stated Ellen DeGeneres is the most universally beloved human being on Earth. And I stand by that statement. She is nominated here for Choice TV Personality ("The Ellen DeGeneres Show"), and she will probably win because she tends to win these things any time she is nominated.
But if there is going to be an "upset" of sorts, it will be thanks to James Corden ("The Late Late Show with James Corden") because "Carpool Karaoke" exists.
Also nominated in this category are Anthony Anderson ("To Tell the Truth"), Blake Shelton ("The Voice"), Jimmy Fallon ("The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon") and Tyra Banks ("America's Got Talent").
Winner: Janel Parrish.
Explanation: the end of "Pretty Little Liars."
Also nominated: Cory Michael Smith ("Gotham"), Grant Gustin ("The Flash"), Josh Segarra ("Arrow"), Mark Pellegrino ("Supernatural") and Teri Hatcher ("Supergirl") .
I repeat: everybody loves the "Stranger Things" kids. None more than Millie Bobby Brown, who is nominated here. And she will probably win under this logic—also because she is very, very good as Eleven. If not her, Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”).
Chrissy Metz (“This is Us”), K.J. Apa (“Riverdale”), Lili Reinhart (“Riverdale”) and Ryan Destiny (“Star”).
"This Is Us" broke out in such a way with its first season that it is already renewed for two more seasons on NBC. It's a clear frontrunner in this category despite the popularity of some of the other nominees.
"Famous in Love" and "Riverdale," are both very addictive. As is, of course, "Stranger Things." Also nominated: "Star" and "Timeless."
Truthfully, this is a complete and utter crapshoot between Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd.
Bieber, however, is a clear frontrunner here, if not for the sheer force of his adoring fanbase.
Deciphering which female artist teenagers will dub queen is also a toss-up. Selena Gomez is the reigning champion of this category, and I don't think she has suddenly become less famous, produced less music or her fans love her any less this year than last. So, sure, Selena Gomez could easily win this award again.
Given the horrific attack in Manchester on May 22 at an Ariana Grande Dangerous Woman Tour gig, though, and the way she gracefully handled herself in the aftermath, it's hard not to think this is her year.
Other nominees: Alessia Cara, Hailee Steinfeld, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus (who, it should be noted, made a very successful return to music with "Malibu").
The Chainsmokers are ubiquitous in the music scene these days, which makes them the favorite here. The Chainsmokers released their first full-length album with Memories...Do Not Open, which hit No. 1.
Also nominated: Fifth Harmony, Little Mix, Maroon 5, The Lumineers, The Vamps and twenty one pilots.
A field that includes Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna is a tough one to predict, indeed.
If you have a clear-cut qualifier that separates one of these people from the others, please let us know. But since we're in the business right now of just guessing who will walk away with an award in his or her hand, let's go with Drake, who recently won 13 Billboard Awards.
Calvin Harris is Forbes highest-paid DJ for the sixth consecutive year. And for good reason, as Harris has released banger after banger singles this year: "Slide" featuring Frank Ocean and Quavo; "Feels" featuring Katy Perry, Big Sean and Pharrell Williams; "Rollin" featuring Future and Khalid; and "Heatstroke" featuring Young Thug and Pharrell.
He then released a full album, "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1".
So, yeah, 2017 has been very kind to Harris. And Harris has been very kind to us in 2017. That said, it has been a decade since Harris's debut album—and 21-year-old Martin Garrix is "the next" Calvin Harris.
Garrix releases hit singles in his own right. I'm giving the Teen Choice to Garrix.
Other nominees: David Guetta, Major Lazer, Steve Aoki and Zedd.
Sam Hunt is the latest and hottest thing in country music; these awards are granted by the group of humans who generally decide who gets to be the latest and hottest thing in anything. So, this is Sam Hunt's award to lose.
Other nominees and potential winners are mainstays: Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line, Kelsea Ballerini and Luke Bryan.
This award takes on new meaning in light of beloved Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington's suicide on July 20. It goes without saying that Linkin Park is deserving of such an award regardless given the group's dominance over decades in rock. It also goes without saying that anybody with a heart is now rooting for this award to go to Linkin Park.
But Harry Styles exists, and Harry Styles released a debut self-titled No. 1 album that leans more into rock than the pop landscape he previously dominated with One Direction.
Heart says Linkin Park, head says Harry Styles.
Other nominees: Imagine Dragons, Paramore, twenty one pilots and X Ambassadors.
Heavyweight fight between "That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars, "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran, "Sign of the Times" by Harry Styles, "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee (feat. Justin Bieber), "Slow Hands" by Niall Horan and "Body Like a Back Road" by Sam Hunt.
Note: each of these singles' accompany music or lyric videos have multimillion views—in the case of "Shape of You" and "Despacito," (original) billions.
Which is to say, I have absolutely no idea who is supposed to be favored here. The easy way out is to side with the song that allegedly caused a 45 percent up-spike in tourism to Puerto Rico: "Despacito."
Heavyweight Part Two.
Nominated in this category are singles "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara, "Crying in the Club" by Camila Cabello (among her first singles as a defected member of Fifth Harmony), "Most Girls" by Hailee Steinfeld, "Issues" by Julia Michaels, "Malibu" by Miley Cyrus and "Bad Liar" by Selena Gomez (with samplings from Talking Heads).
Steinfeld's "Most Girls" and "Scars to Your Beautiful" are outward anthems for women, while "Malibu" is Miley's step into the next phase of her career. But while Miley has been inactive in music for a bit now, and this new music is very different from the last time we heard her, "Bad Liar" is unlike anything we have heard from Gomez in the past, too.
We're slightly siding with the critically acclaimed "Bad Liar," united behind the power of Selenators.
It has been a little over a year since The Chainsmokers released "Closer" featuring Halsey, and you can still catch it on the radio along with many of the duo's other singles. Its continued relevance is reflected by the lyric video's 1.76 billion views.
Also nominated in this category are "Down" by Fifth Harmony (feat. Gucci Mane), "Guys My Age" by Hey Violet, "Believer" by Imagine Dragons (probably the closest contender behind "Closer), "Shout Out to My Ex" by Little Mix and "Heathens" by twenty one pilots.
Yes, we're still talking about The Chainsmokers. Only this time, with Coldplay for ("Something Just Like This").
The power of One Directioners might propel "Just Hold On" to a victory here, as it was Louis Tomlinson's (along with Steve Aoki) first music outside of the group.
Oh yeah, Justin Bieber is in this category, too. "2U" by David Guetta featuring Justin Bieber dropped in June and served as soundtrack for a Victoria's Secret campaign.
The other songs nominated are "It Ain't Me" by Kygo & Selena Gomez, "Know No Better" by Major Lazer (feat. Travis Scott, Camila Cabello & Quavo) and "Rockabye" by Clean Bandit (feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie).
It's tough that Macklemore's "Glorious" (feat. Skylar Grey) probably won't win this award because the music video featuring Macklemore's 100-year-old grandmother is great.
But DJ Khaled made a mega-watt single in "I'm The One" featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne. And it's tough to see how anyone beats that fire power.
Newcomer Khalid is nominated for his debut single "Location," and he will be up for plenty of these awards in his career, seeing as he is only 19 years old.
Drake is also nominated for "Passionfruit", alongside Childish Gambino for "Redbone" and Bruno Mars for "That's What I Like".
twenty one pilots hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 with nominated song "Heathens." But that was in 2016, and "Believer" by Imagine Dragons (currently No. 5) is the new thing in rock this summer. So, it's a favorite for an award show taking place this summer.
Also nominated: "Green Light" by Lorde, "Hard Times" by Paramore, "Heavy" by Linkin Park (feat. Kiiara) and "Human" – Rag'n'Bone Man.
There's Zayn, there's Taylor Swift, and then there's the unlikely but insanely powerful pairing of Zayn and Taylor Swift together. This happened to start the year in January through single "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" for the "Fifty Shades Darker" soundtrack.
It doesn't quite matter that "No Promises" by Cheat Codes (feat. Demi Lovato), "It Ain't Me" – Kygo & Selena Gomez, "God, Your Mama, and Me" – Florida Georgia Line (feat. Backstreet Boys), "It Ain't Me" – Kygo & Selena Gomez, "Just Hold On" – Steve Aoki & Louis Tomlinson and "Stay" – Zedd & Alessia Cara are also bops in their own rights.
Each of these pop songs make sense to win, except for maybe "Don't Wanna Know" by Maroon 5 featuring Kendrick Lamar. So, to make things easy, we'll predict "Stay" by Zedd and Alessia Cara simply because it is the most recently popular of the nominees , which include "Love on the Brain" by Rihanna, "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran, "Closer" by The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey and "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars.
Chance the Rapper, Dua Lipa, Halsey, James Arthur, Julia Michaels and Zara Larsson will each be in the music industry for a very long time. All of them have broken out in the biggest way. But only one of those listed has a KitKat commercial and a stronghold in social activism, and his name is Chance the Rapper.
America in bulk fell in love with 12-year-old Grace VanderWaal as soon as she auditioned for America's Got Talent with her ukulele. She is now managed by TH3RD BRAIN and Jake Udell, has new music out in "Moonlight," and is the backdrop for a new Windex commercial. So, yeah. She wins this and life.
Also nominated: Forever in Your Mind, Jax Jones, Jonas Blue, New Hope Club and The Tide.
First of all, the accompany photo to this slide is obviously not of Justin Bieber in a music-related environment, which is fitting because he decided to make the now-most streamed song of all time in remixing "Despacito" (along with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee) in the same way he decides to go and play hockey: in his free time.
Here are the other nominees in this category: "Bad Liar" by Selena Gomez, "Castle on the Hill" by Ed Sheeran, "Malibu" by Miley Cyrus, "Stay" by Zedd and Alessia Cara and "That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars.
All very worthy, but none are the most streamed song of all-time and most watched video on YouTube of all-time.
Unfortunately, the tour that defined Summer 2017 will forever be Ariana Grande's Dangerous Woman Tour due to the terror attacks at her Manchester show on May 22. Grande's most memorable performance on this tour run wasn't even a scheduled tour date but rather a One Love Manchester benefit concert on June 4 in Manchester, featuring almost every big name in music you can think of.
Other tours deservingly nominated are Bruno Mars' 24K Magic World Tour, Ed Sheeran's Divide Tour, Kendrick Lamar's The DAMN. Tour, Sam Hunt's 15 in a 30 Tour and Shawn Mendes' Illuminate World Tour.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most famous athlete in the world, by these metrics. Seeing as soccer is the world's game, that makes sense.
LeBron James came in at No. 2 on ESPN's World Fame 100.
Other nominees for Choice Male Athlete on the list are Stephen Curry (No. 11) and Rickie Fowler (No. 62), with nominees John Cena and Mike Trout left off.
It's hard to argue with numbers and not say Ronaldo is a lock, but who is bigger in America right now than Steph Curry? What little kid shooting a basketball outside doesn't want to make insane shots like Steph Curry? We're going with the Baby-Faced Assassin here.
Serena Williams is nominated for this, and she is currently not even playing tennis due to the fact that she is pregnant. Her last appearance on the tennis court was at the 2017 Australian Open, which she won while pregnant. Serena Williams is the greatest athlete in the world, don't @ us.
It wouldn't be a surprise, though, if either U.S. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles (four goal medals, one bronze in Rio last year) or Laurie Hernandez (one gold and one silver in Rio) take this home.
Also nominated are Sasha Banks (WWE), The Bella Twins (WWE) and Elena Delle Donne (WNBA).
Megan Armstrong (@megankarmstrong) is a writer whose work has appeared in places such as Billboard, GQ, Esquire, Bleacher Report, Uproxx, and others. Megan has also produced various podcasts and hosted a daily radio show at Mizzou. She grew up obsessed with sports — impressing adults by memorizing NFL statistics as a kindergartner — and grew into an obsession with music
