Road House had a huge debut on Prime Video. In fact, since releasing 21 March, it’s now the most-watched Amazon-produced film on the streaming service.
Over 50 million viewers have streamed the movie so far globally, making it a record-breaker for Amazon.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement, “The groundbreaking, successful debut of Road House is a testament to the hard work and commitment from the entire Road House filmmaking team and the film’s cast led by the phenomenal Jake Gyllenhaal.”
Amazon doesn’t usually release viewing figures, so this is an unusual move for the company. The one caveat is Amazon not clarifying how exactly it arrived at the figure.
For instance, does Amazon count each watch as two? That’s how Netflix apparently does it according to Zack Synder’s shocking Netflix claim. The justification being that more than one person can watch from one account.
And how long do you have to watch before it counts as a view? If you switch off after ten seconds, that might still count.
Regardless of how Amazon calculate it, 50 million is still an impressive number.
