These 20 2000s children’s television shows deserve a reboot

Studio executives are approving every other reboot. Why not these children's TV shows from the '00s?

'Phil of the Future'

'Phil of the Future'
Disney Channel

The Diffy family was able to take on the 2000s, but times have changed. A Phil of the Future reboot could give everyone the chance to see how those characters are able to navigate another decade — or it could give audiences a peek into the 22nd century.

'The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius'

'The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius'
Nickelodeon

The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius had too many great characters for the series to stay in the past. Carl and Sheen are among the best animated sidekicks in history, and Jimmy’s parents are two perfect lunatics.

'Hannah Montana'

'Hannah Montana'
Disney

There is a world in which Miley Cyrus would be open to reprising her role as Hannah Montana for even just 10 minutes, and it feels like we’re inching closer and closer to living in that world all the time. We’ve got to know what Hannah and Miley Stewart are both up to today.

'Kim Possible'

'Kim Possible'
Walt Disney Television Animation

There have reportedly been serious talks about a Kim Possible reboot, and we’d love to see it. This series was fantastic, and a new generation of kids deserves to get a little taste of it, too.

'Lizzie McGuire'

'Lizzie McGuire'
Disney

We wanted the Lizzie McGuire reboot to happen so badly, and after hearing what the plot of the first episode was supposed to be, we wanted it even more. We still want it, and we always will.

'Recess'

'Recess'
Walt Disney Television Animation

School has been out long enough. It’s time for Recess to come back. This series reminded everyone just how fun — and sometimes stressful — recess is. Today’s kids are deprived of seeing that depiction on television and deserve the same experience that ‘90s and ‘00s kids had.

'Even Stevens'

'Even Stevens'
Disney Channel

The Even Stevens movie was great, but it’s time for a proper reboot. We’ve got to know what antics Louis and Beans have been getting into as adults, even if they haven’t been getting into them together.

'Ed, Edd n Eddy'

'Ed, Edd n Eddy'
Cartoon Network

The creatives behind Ed, Edd n Eddy have addressed the possibility of a reboot, and they said no. So, it appears it’s not going to happen. But we can dream, right? And we can note that it’s one of the most iconic animated series of all time that definitely deserves a reboot.

'As Told by Ginger'

'As Told by Ginger'
Nickelodeon via YouTube

As Told by Ginger is one of the most underrated animated series of all time, but it also deserves a reboot. Ginger made slightly awkward kids feel seen authentically, and it was one of the few animated series in which the characters changed clothes.

'Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide'

'Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide'
Nickelodeon via YouTube

The stars of Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide started their own podcast, and they’ve shared some behind-the-scenes tales that maybe should’ve remained classified. But we would be very happy to see them do a proper reboot in which there are actual writers involved.

'Codename: Kids Next Door'

'Codename: Kids Next Door'
Cartoon Network

They don’t make children’s shows like Codename: Kids Next Door anymore. Seriously, there aren't any series with similar plots these days. Rather than creating a new show, executives need to give the greenlight to reboot Codename: Kids Next Door

'Drake & Josh'

'Drake & Josh'
Nickelodeon

Drake & Josh is still one of the funniest children’s series to ever grace television. Drake Bell and Josh Peck were hilarious as stepbrothers, and comedic timing isn’t something that’s just lost. We need these two to reunite for a reboot pronto.

'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody'

'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody'
Disney Channel

Speaking of funny children’s series, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody was up there. And this would be a genuinely interesting reboot, given each character's wildly different path when the series ended. Even a movie where they all reunite at the Tipton for a weekend would be incredible.

'Courage the Cowardly Dog'

'Courage the Cowardly Dog'
Cartoon Network via YouTube

Courage the Cowardly Dog might be one of the scariest children’s series in history. It was genuinely terrifying at times, but kids loved it. Any child who’s a fan of horror would eat up a reboot.

'Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends'

'Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends'
Cartoon Network via YouTube

Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends had a unique premise, too. Kids who had or still have imaginary friends need to feel seen on TV, and a reboot of this series would be just the trick.

Dexter’s Laboratory

Dexter’s Laboratory
Cartoon Network via YouTube

Science has never been as fun as when watching Dexter’s Laboratory. Perhaps because there wasn’t that much actual science in the show. But still. Dexter made having a science lab at home look fun, and he taught every kid in America an alternative way to say laboratory.

'Danny Phantom'

'Danny Phantom'
Nickelodeon via YouTube

Animated series would be the easiest to reboot. Danny Phantom would also be cool as an animated-to-live-action reboot. That treatment has been reserved for film, but it could totally work for a series.

'Johnny Bravo'

'Johnny Bravo'
Cartoon Network via YouTube

Johnny Bravo, on the other hand, needs to stay an animated series. His proportions would not translate well to live action, and neither would much of his behavior, but it could be at least partially excused in animation. And maybe the reboot could be all about his growth as a man.

'The Angry Beavers'

'The Angry Beavers'
Nickelodeon

The Angry Beavers is another series that does not need to be rebooted in live-action, but a true reboot would be totally welcome. Those beavers would have a lot to be angry about today.

'Hey Arnold!'

'Hey Arnold!'
Nickelodeon

Why Hey Arnold! hasn’t been rebooted already is truly confounding. There were rumors once upon a time that the series was being rebooted in live-action, but that has yet to happen. And we’re not entirely sure that would be the best route. A true reboot with the old animation style would be the way to go.
