The NBA is coming back to NBC this October, and this time Peacock is part of the deal. The NBA and NBCUniversal announced an 11-year agreement in July 2024 that will include coverage of both NBA and WNBA games across NBC-owned media including NBC, Peacock, USA Network, Sky Sports and Telemundo.
This week, NBC Sports began promoting the upcoming partnership with a campaign featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum and Victor Wembanyama. Watch it below.
The 11-year agreement includes a ton of NBA and WNBA games and additional content. Most importantly, NBC and Peacock will air 100 NBA national games each regular season and NBC, USA and Peacock will air more than 50 WNBA regular-season and first-round playoff games each season. NBC will also air more NBA Playoff games than any other network.
Peacock will be the exclusive streaming home of approximately 50 regular season and postseason NBA games, including Monday night games.
NBC will also take over coverage for some special events. That includes the NBA All-Star Game and the All-Star Saturday Night events each season which will air on both NBC and Peacock. And NBC will bring back the iconic “Roundball Rock” theme music.
“The return of NBA basketball to the NBC Sports family comes with enormous benefits and excitement for our fans,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in a July 2024 announcement. “And through its multiple platforms – especially NBC and Peacock – and its expansive resources, NBCUniversal promises to build on the deep tradition and history of the NBA on NBC.”
“Returning to NBCU at a time when momentum around the WNBA and women’s basketball has never been higher presents numerous opportunities to engage with new fans and grow the league’s core audience,” said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. “We look forward to bringing WNBA games to NBCU’s vast audiences on its networks and platforms, which will not only help elevate the league but also enhance the storytelling of the WNBA’s incredible athletes.”
The agreement between NBC and the NBA also includes coverage of Team USA Basketball. Coverage of both the USA Men’s and Women’s teams will lead up to the Olympics in 2028, 2032 and 2036, along with both men's and women's pre-FIBA World Cup games through 2035. NBC will have more details closer to event dates, but has already shared that Peacock will exclusively stream some coverage.
