One of college basketball’s all-time greats officially hung up his jersey on Wednesday, with BYU’s Jimmer Fredette stepping away from basketball.

Fredette, a March Madness legend, posted a sentimental goodbye on X that featured the official written announcement, followed by some highlights through various points of his career.

“Ever since I was young, I was obsessed with basketball,” Fredette wrote. Seeing the basketball go in was magical. I wanted to play it every day. The game has taught me hard work, determination, and grit. Basketball has taken me all around the world: from Glens Falls, NY, to BYU, the NBA, China, Greece, and even Team USA at the Olympics!”

“This game and my love for it shaped me into the person I am today, and for that I am forever grateful,” Fredette continued. “So many memories and amazing moments. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it! The next journey starts now. Sign off!”

Fredette will go down as one of the best to ever grace the court at BYU, and in his senior season, the New York native averaged 28.9 points per game over the span of 37 games played.

He finished his college basketball career with nearly 3000 points recorded, before heading on to the NBA. Fredette bounced around a lot in his eight-year NBA career, making stops with Sacramento, Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Phoenix.

As impressive as collegiate athletes have become in recent years, we can say without any doubt that there will never be another Jimmer Fredette.
