Desmond Howard joined his College GameDay colleagues in celebrating Lee Corso on Thursday.
ESPN announced that Corso will make his final College GameDay appearance on Aug. 30. The former Indiana head coach has informed and entertained college football fans throughout a legendary 38-year run on the iconic show.
Howard, a current GameDay panelist, paid tribute to Corso on social media. The former Heisman Trophy winner posted photos of them laughing together with a short and sweet message.
"Words can't adequately express just how much LC means to me and the entire GameDay family," Howard wrote. "An absolute legend. A true friend. "We're gonna miss you, Coach. Wishing you all the best in your retirement."
Other GameDay panelists sent well-wishes to Corso following the retirement news.
Rece Davis, who's hosted the show for the last decade, called Corso the "cornerstone" of College GameDay. He noted Corso's impact on making sports coverage more fun and personable.
"He's part of the DNA of College GameDay. He is a wonderful friend, a trusted mentor, and I think it's really easy to say that the show won't be the same without him," Davis said. "But if I can borrow a phrase, 'Not so fast, my friend.' The things that he's taught us, the impact that he's had, the lessons that he has given will endure now on for College GameDay."
Pat McAfee, who joined GameDay in 2022, paid tribute to an "absolute legend" during his ESPN show.
"Trailblazer. Dog," McAfee said. "Honored to call him a peer for a couple of years here, and the sports world will definitely miss him every single week."
Kirk Herbstreit called his longtime friend and mentor an "icon" and a "once-in-a-lifetime person" in a video posted on Thursday.
"I love you. I thank you for so many lessons you taught me," Herbstreit said. "Almost 30 years together. I have enjoyed sitting next to you, watching you do your thing. So much fun."
