Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies women's basketball team has gotten off to a strong start in the 2024 campaign, as they have raced out to a 14-2 record. However, there was some serious concern surrounding star guard Paige Bueckers after she left the team's latest game with a knee injury.

UConn rolled over the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday, with the final score settling in at 83-52. Bueckers left the game early, though, and considering the serious injuries she has suffered in the past, most notably when she tore her ACL back in 2022, fans were immediately worried that she suffered another long-term injury.

Thankfully, it appears as if Bueckers has managed to avoid a serious injury for UConn this time around. Auriemma revealed on Tuesday that Bueckers had only suffered a knee sprain, and that the team was expecting her to be back on the court at some point next week.

"Paige Bueckers has a knee sprain, Geno Auriemma says. Compares it to the injury Azzi Fudd had earlier this year. Hoping to have her back in a week," Alexa Phillippou shared in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Bueckers is one of the top women's college basketball players in the nation right now, so seeing her suffer another serious injury would have been crushing. Thankfully, it sounds like she should be back sooner rather than later, although it wouldn't be surprising to see the Huskies be cautious with her over the next couple of days.

Through 15 games, Bueckers has had a hot start to the year for UConn. She's averaging 19.9 points per game, which is tops in the Big East, in addition to 4.3 rebounds and four assists per game while shooting 55.9% from the field.

The Huskies will have to figure out a way to win without Bueckers while she's on the sidelines, but her absence should not be a lengthy one. So while she won't play against the Xaiver Musketeers or the Georgetown Hoyas this week, keep an eye out for her to return to action at some point next week.
