Is Cowboys' Draft Target an 'Acquired Taste'?

Leading up the the NFL Draft, aside from Colorado superstar Travis Hunter, there is no clear certainty as to where the run of wide receiver selections will take place.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the heat of this race as they search for an "explosive No. 2 option" to pair with CeeDee Lamb. With very little free agency urgency and the No. 12 pick, signs point to the team finding one in the first round.

However, as we've pointed out on CowboysCountry.com, anything can happen ... and this is a team that needs more help at other positions as well (running back, offensive line, cornerback, etc).

Of the top receivers who may be available at 12, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan and Texas' Matthew Golden are the likely candidates, but their projected selection remains a mystery across the NFL.

According to Yahoo Sports, teams are not as sold on McMillan as many analysts assume they are.

Reporter Charles Robinson has labeled the former Wildcat wideout an "acquired taste", and wouldn't be surprised if he rises anywhere into the top-10 overall or falls to somewhere deep into the 20s of Round 1.

"It was a pretty even split in terms of teams that had him as a top-10 pick, versus middle of the first round and late in the first round in their stack," Robinson said.

Analyzing both sides of the coin, McMillan has deservedly received first-round grades throughout this scouting process.

His excellent size at nearly 6-5 make him an immediate red zone threat, often being named the best jump-ball receiver in the class. He has the numbers to back it up, too.

While at Arizona, "T-Mac" became the only receiver in the country to surpass 1,300+ yards in each of the last two seasons.

On the other side ... his profile has fallen victim to some asterisks as teams judge his character and competitiveness. On the field, McMillan declined running the 40-yard dash at the Combine, which added to growing concerns about his confidence in his speed. But he answered those critics by running a 4.48 at his Pro Day.

Also, rumors swirled regarding a video from years ago that McMillan doesn't watch film and, frankly, doesn't like watching football ... However, we've put that argument to bed in the past.

But have other teams? It appears not quite.

While McMillan may be a wildcard on some team's boards, thankfully for him he'll ideally get drafted to one of the teams that like him.

So are the Dallas Cowboys one of them? Or do they make a move elsewhere ... if he's even still available?

On April 24, we'll see how long it takes for McMillan's name to be called, and which team might have came around and changed their palette.
