For 38 years Howard Eskin has been one of the main faces and voices of Sportsradio WIP in Philadelphia. But in a sudden, surprise announcement, Eskin announced his departure from the station.
Taking to X on Friday, Eskin announced that he is "moving on" from WIP but also indicated that he's not quite ready to retire. He said that he'll keep his listeners updated on his future plans and thanked them for their support.
"After 38 years I am moving on from Sportsradio WIP where I launched the station’s sports talk franchise in 1986. I leave the station with great affection for the listeners who have made the work I do so fulfilling during my time there. I’m looking forward to what comes next career-wise. I promise you’ll be the first to know. Thank you," Eskin wrote.

Fans in the replies were stunned but offered their congratulations on both his incredible career at the network and well wishes moving forward:
"Snow storm of Jan ‘14. I was scheduled for a 5 hour solo shift. Next host couldn’t make it in, leaving me to 9 solo hours on air. Howard came in and worked five hours with me, even though we had never been on air together. Congrats on a great run and thanks for paving the way!" WIP's Joe Giglio fondly recalled.
"Didn’t agree with you on many things but you were apart of our lives for so many long years. I listened to you while driving with my dad and then driving with my kids. Best of luck!" one user replied.
"Howard Eskin surely on the Mt Rushmore for Philly Sports radio While I didn’t always agree with you, the always entertained. Cheers Howard," another declared.
"Congratulations, Howard - wishing you continued success and happiness in your next adventure! Looking forward to it!" a third wrote.
But Eskin has no shortage of people who hate his guts for some of his sports takes and antics through the years. The replies to his message were dotted with more than a few fans celebrating his departure.
That's the case with most people who make their living giving their opinions on topics that people are so passionate about.
We'll be keeping an eye on where Eskin winds up next.
