No. 10 LSU completed a two-game regular season series sweep against McNeese, clinching a 5-2 win on Tuesday night at Tiger Park, highlighted by a decisive five-run third inning.
With this victory, LSU (37-10) has now won four consecutive games against McNeese (34-18). The Tigers also remain undefeated at 8-0 against in-state rivals this season and finishes its non-conference regular season with an impressive 28-1 record.
LSU pitcher Tatum Clopton (7-1) secured the victory with a stellar performance, recording four strikeouts while allowing just four hits, no runs, and no walks over 7.0 innings.
Despite a rain delay, her energy in the circle remained unmatched. In the game against McNeese on Tuesday, she surrendered only four hits and no runs, striking out four batters without issuing any walks. She boasts a 1.88 earned run average over nine outings as a Tiger, having struck out 36 batters in 40 innings of work.
LSU recorded eight hits, spearheaded by outfielder Jalia Lassiter's impressive 2-for-3 showing, which included two RBIs, one run, and one walk, along with infielder Avery Hodge's perfect 2-for-2 performance with one RBI. McNeese took an early 2-0 advantage in the first inning, but LSU responded with five runs on five hits in the third inning, featuring a two-run double from Lassiter and an RBI double from outfielder Redoutey.
Despite a 45-minute lightning delay, LSU maintained their lead throughout the game, thanks to a strong defensive performance that retired nine of the last 12 batters they faced.
LSU will wrap up its regular season home games with a three-match series against No. 8 Florida from April 26th to 28th.
