Martinez stuns in UFC debut

The hometown hero came away with a thrilling debut in UFC Mexico.

David Martinez brought excitement to the crowd as he earned a win via a first-round stoppage over Saimon Oliveira to capture his first UFC win.

Martinez stayed patient through the beginning of the fight, picking when to take shots at Oliveira, taking the advantage and getting the better of Oliveira.

Midway through the fight, Martinez began to find his stride and landing more shots.

Eventually, Martinez stung Oliveira with a right hand to thwart any attempt at a comeback.

Martinez then amplified the pressure and pursued a fantastic finish.

Needless to say, it was a fantastic finish for the UFC newcomer.

Martinez now joins his sister, Melissa in the winner’s circle. The pair became the second brother-sister duo to accomplish such a feat.

Post-fight, Martinez expressed his excitement, saying, “It was a special moment for me. This win is dedicated to my family, but also to the Mexican fighters who shared this card with me. For me, it’s a dream come true to be a part of the best league in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, with my song, with my family, walking with me through the cage. Of course, I was a little bit with tears, but it was an emotional walk for me.”
