PHOENIX — Phoenix Rising is preparing for one of the oldest ongoing soccer tournaments in the United States as it’s set to face FC Tulsa on Wednesday, April 16.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Cup, a single-round elimination tournament, will celebrate its 110th edition this year. All professional and amateur clubs affiliated with U.S. Soccer are free to participate. This year marks the 11th season Rising will compete in the tournament.
Risng Head Coach Pa-Modou Kah says winning the U.S. Cup means being the best. “This club is built on ambition; we aim to win trophies in every competition we enter,” Kah said. “We’re here to compete and leave our mark.”
Rising and Tulsa met earlier this year, with Rising falling 1-0 at home on March 8. Although Telsa is on a roll, winning three of four matches so far this season, Rising has the slightest edge against them. Rising has won eight of the previous nine games against Tulsa, and April 16 will be the 15th time they go face to face.
