With just weeks until the 2025 NFL Draft, teams are in the final stages of their pre-draft operation. With the information-gathering stage coming to a close, teams are stacking boards, finalizing reports, and getting ready to make a series of critical decisions.
Before the draft, though, comes pro day season. That will be headlined by the quarterbacks, largely Colorado passer Shedeur Sanders’ on Friday.
Teams will also have the ability to host their own workouts, specifically for local talents looking to work out in front of scouts and small-school standouts putting themselves on the map.
On Friday, Rutgers Scarlet Knights stars headlined the New York Giants’ local pro day.
Art Stapleton was first to report on the hoard of Rutgers’ finest in East Rutherford for the festivities. The group was joined by Rhode Island running back Malik Grant, Ball State offensive lineman Jonathan Mucciolo, and Notre Dame defensive lineman Howard Cross III. His list includes the following:
Of these, Monangai may be of the most interest for the Giants. Projected to be a mid-Day 3 pick, the Rutgers running back is a natural complement to Tyrone Tracy Jr. He’s a one-cut, physical runner who boasts strong vision and footwork, adequate explosiveness, and good contact balance. He’s a standout in pass protection.
Pierce also figures to make some sense as a developmental tackle. At 6-8 and 340 pounds, he’s more upside than substance as things stand, but harnessing his physicality into a long-term contributor will probably be enticing enough to get him drafted.
Vanover, from the rival Nittany Lions, joined those Scarlet Knights on Thursday. He is an undersized edge rusher who may not have the athleticism to compensate, running a 4.75-second 40-yard dash at 243 pounds,
These workouts don’t necessarily indicate much interest, although it wouldn’t be surprising if any undrafted name from that list landed in New York after the front office got a closer look at them.
