Tennessee Makes Major Announcement on Monday

Tennessee Lady Volunteers head coach Kim Caldwell has only been at the Power Four level one season, and at the Division I level for two seasons, but she will be staying with the Lady Vols for quite some time. 

Caldwell, fresh off an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen, has had her contract extended one season, Tennessee Director of Athletics Danny White announced Monday. 

Caldwell is now under contract at Tennessee through March 31. 2030.

"From our first meeting with Kim, it was clear that she is a groundbreaking innovator destined to lead the future of women's basketball," White said in the Vols' statement. "In just one season, we experienced firsthand how her winning formula can revolutionize the game with her dynamic, high-octane offense and relentless defense. The promising future of Lady Vols basketball is in great hands under Kim's leadership, setting the stage for a remarkable journey ahead!" 

In her first season at Tennessee, the Lady Volunteers went 24-10 (8-8 SEC) and earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Women's Tournament. The Lady Vols knocked off No. 12 USF and No. 4 Ohio State before falling to No. 1 Texas in the Sweet Sixteen. 

Caldwell implemented an up-tempo, high-intensity system that led to the Lady Vols averaging 86.6 points per game (third-best in the nation) on the back of 10.1 3-pointers made and 16.9 offensive rebounds per game. 

The Lady Vols set a program and SEC record for 3-point attempts (1,054) and makes (34) in a season. 

Caldwell has the Lady Volunteers up well for future success, securing one of the top recruiting classes in the country. According to ESPN, the Lady Vols have the No. 2 class in the country, headlined by No. 11 recruit Mia Pauldo. 

Caldwell has also served as the head coach at her alma mater Glenville State (Division II) and Marshall. She experienced historic success at Glenville State, winning the Division II national championship, before she took the job at Marshall. 

In her one season at Marshall, Caldwell earned the Sun Belt Coach of the Year and Maggie Dixon Awards.
