The NFL Draft starts on Thursday night with the first-round selections. ... and Travis Hunter is about to become a headline-grabber.
ESPN's NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky is a big believer in Hunter, the player many experts project the Cleveland Browns to select with No. 2 overall.
It makes sense to connect the Browns with the Heisman Trophy winner and two-way superstar from Colorado.
Should that be the case, Orlovsky is totally on board.
Or maybe ... overboard?
Orlovsky recently appeared on 92.3 The Fan’s Afternoon Drive to talk about the Browns' potential selection.
“I think he’s a top-5 playmaker in the NFL,'' Orlovsky asserted.
The ESPN personality continued ...
"You know, one of my favorite qualities of his is, you could throw the ball to him when you shouldn’t as a quarterback, and just because of their body control and their ball skills and their competitive fight - he’s got that,” Orlovsky said.
No argument there.
But let's back up.
Orlovsky isn't saying "top-5 playmaker'' in the draft.
He's saying, "top-5 playmaker'' in the league.
Hunter is probably the most multi-faceted athlete to come out of the draft in years. He captivated the hearts of college football fans with his ironman approach to the game and averaged over 100 snaps a season while in college.
The biggest question is whether he can take his college game and translate it to the NFL as a two-way guy.
He would also have to be in double the amount of meetings and there are those coaches, such as Baltimore Ravens boss John Harbaugh, who do not believe there are enough hours in the day to soak up the knowledge needed to game plan for both positions.
Hunter has recently said he would rather retire than be forced to only play one position, but that won't be a problem. Cleveland will fully utilize him.
But top-5 in the entire league? Let's give the kid a minute to try on his new jersey before we put that on him, shall we?
