Travis Hunter Labeled 'Unicorn' In Major NFL Draft Clue

There are plenty of reasons for the Cleveland Browns with the second-overall pick and for the New York Giants with the third-overall pick and yes, with the Dallas Cowboys and the No. 12 pick in this NFL Draft, to covet.

Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter.

Who likes him? Who wants him?

Let's consider who is now labeling Hunter - the most talented prospect going - as a "unicorn'''?

Listen to Browns general manager Andrew Berry on the subject.

Berry, not exactly playing coy about the possibility of drafting him, just called Hunter a “unicorn,” at his pre-draft press conference.

"It's a little bit like (baseball star Shohei) Ohtani," Berry said Thursday. "You know he's playing one side, and he's an outstanding player. If he's a pitcher or hitter, he's an outstanding player. You, obviously, get a unicorn if you use him both ways."

Ohtani is an apt comparison because he's not only a two-way player ... he’s the most talented player in the sport.

If Hunter is the pick, the Browns will have certain challenges. Can he be both a receiver and a corner full-time? Must he be spoon-fed on his way to that level of participation?

Know this: Berry won’t make that pick without a comprehensive plan for how Hunter’s transition would work.

"I think one of the things that you can't fully appreciate until you actually see Travis play live is his elite conditioning," said Berry, once again dropping a major clue here. "Going out and seeing him play at Colorado, he really never comes off the field. It's unbelievable because there are more plays in a college game than the pro game.''

Is there any caution at all?

That being said, what he would attempt to do has not been done in our league,'' Berry said, adding, "but we necessarily wouldn't put a cap on or govern in terms of what he could do.''

Bottom line: There are other good players. The implication of calling Travis Hunter a "unicorn'' makes him one of a kind.

And that's why you draft him.
