Arthur Fleck's story may be all wrapped up because director Todd Phillips has alluded that it's unlikely he'll be returning to direct any DC films in the near future.

The Hollywood Reporter asked Phillips about a potential spin-off film for Lady Gaga's Lee Quinzel, but he was quick to shut the idea down, saying, "I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films," which is a shift in tone from the Joker: Folie à Deux press conference at Venice where he said, "I can't say yes or no" about a potential third Joker film.

Joker: Folie à Deux marked Joaquin Phoenix's first appearance in a sequel, and in Venice, Phillips said, "I don't want to speak for Joaquin, but for me, the story of Arthur/Joker has been told."

Phillips' new film wraps up Fleck's story pretty neatly, not leaving much room for sequel potential as the first film did.

This time, we meet Arthur Fleck, who is awaiting trial for killing five people, but the film shifts between reality and fantasy as Joker deals with delusions that exist in a world reminiscent of old studio movie musicals.

Todd Phillips says, "Music is an essential element" in the Joker sequel, but has denied that it is a musical in multiple interviews.

Joker: Folie à Deux is in theaters now.
