Examining the odds for the upcoming BMW Championship

Rory McIlroy missed out on the playoff at the FedEx St. Jude last weekend by just one stroke despite some recently questioning whether he was past his prime. After finishing T3 at TPC Southwind, the Northern Irishman is off to Chicago to compete in the BMW Championship and -- if all goes according to plan -- defend his FedEx Cup championship.

But do oddsmakers believe McIlroy will come out on top at Olympia Fields this weekend?

Confidence in McIlroy's game is high as DraftKings lists him as the 13-2 favorite to win the BMW Championship. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has the next shortest odds at 7-1, while 2022 BMW Championship winner Patrick Cantlay is listed at 9-1. Jon Rahm, who finished T37 last weekend, is also listed ta 9-1.

"My game is in really good shape. I think tee-to-green, this is just a continuation of what I’ve been seeing over the past couple of months," McIlroy told the Irish Times after securing his eighth straight top-10 finish last weekend.

"Ever since the PGA Championship, all the way through to here, ball-striking-wise tee-to-green it’s been really good. With two playoff events to go, I’m certainly happy...nothing but confidence going to Chicago."

McIlroy and his contemporaries are up against steep competition as only the top 50 golfers advanced to the BMW Championship. Only the top 30 points leaders in the FedEx Cup standings following this weekend's event will compete in the Tour Championship to end the PGA Tour season.

The BMW Championship tees off on Thursday, August 17.
