The 2025 Masters Round 1 at Augusta National Golf Club has recorded the first day’s leaderboards, showing Justin Rose at the top spot with -7 (65). Corey Conners, Scottie Scheffler, and Ludvig Åberg are all tied for 2nd with -4 (68). Tyrrell Hatton and, Bryson DeChambeau are tied for 5th at -3 (69)

Round 1 Leaders

Justin Rose from England had an exceptional 7-under-par 65. He took a three-shot lead on day 1. This is the fifth time Rose has led in the first round at the Masters, jumping ahead of Jack Nicklaus’s previous record. Rose had eight birdies and a single bogey on the final hole for the day.

Scheffler is the defending champion, having won the Masters last year. Scheffler posted a bogey-free 4-under par 68. He tied for second in round 1. Scheffler is continuing to play strong at Augusta, which is historic for him. He had a strong opening round at the Masters.

Ludvig Åberg, the 2024 runner-up, looked at the top of his game at 4-under par 68. He’s tied for second place right now alongside Scheffler and Conners. Other notable performances include DeChambeau and Hatton, both had 3 under 69s, putting them in a nice position going into round two. They are each tied for fifth, currently in a fine position moving forward for the pair.

Struggling On the Day

Rory McIlroy was 4 under through 14 holes, but he began to struggle and had a couple of double bogeys on the 15th and 17th. He finished even par which puts him tied for 27th place. McIlroy can still make a quick comeback with a strong start the next day, but he will have an uphill struggle working against him.

Collin Morikawa had a 13th-hole eagle. He was tied at -3 at the top of the leaderboard for a short time. He then had three bogeys in the last four holes on the day, which put him way down tied for 27th. Jordan Spieth had a strong showing early with a 41-foot birdie on hole 1. His early success was short-lived, unfortunately. He ended up finishing +1 (73). This put him down the leaderboards in 38th.

John Rahm had a terrible time in round one. The 2023 Masters champion had a tough day. He finished +3 (75) on the day. It was his worst opening round ever at Augusta National. He finished tied for 63rd on the leaderboards.

Onto Day Two

The opening round of the Masters never fails to be high drama. Year in and year out, it offers standout performances. Do not count anyone out just yet, it is only day one in the books. Nobody is done until they miss the cut.

It is early yet and we can certainly expect big changes to the leaderboards with the shifting momentum. Big things are coming over the weekend at Augusta. The tight competition at the Masters regularly provides dazzling performances from the world’s top golfers.
