Golfers are generally aware of hazards on the course. From sand traps to water and even the very weather itself, golfers calculate the obstacles in their way for each and every shot.

It's said that golf is often just as mentally demanding as it is physically demanding, but one group of players had an unconventional hazard in front of them on the course.

"Insane crocodile at the Kiawah Ocean Course! Props to the cameraman for getting close," one user said on social media.

"For a $600 green fee, you not only get to shoot a 103, but you get to meet this specimen! My buddy sent me this. They literally walked right by him and then he crossed over the tee box behind them. Crazy. I know they are technically not interested in eating us. But I’m still not sure I want to tempt fate."

The animal crossed the tee box on the course before heading into a sandy area on the side.

Players on the PGA Tour have been involved in similar incidents over the years, with Billy Horschel being the most recent. Horschel - a Florida Gator in his own right - had a run-in with an alligator during the Cognizant Classic this year.

“I’m not afraid of gators,” Horschel said.

“Listen, as I tell most people, I said, they’re more afraid of you. The majority of the time they’re only going to come after you during mating season where they’re a little aggressive and then if you’re around their nest when they’ve got some eggs. The majority of the time, they’re fine.”

During his first round of the event, Horschel helped a police officer move an alligator from the course after the officer was having trouble with the animal. The golfer noted that he had done it before, and that it wasn't a big deal for him.

The same couldn't be said for the golfers in the video, who got more than they bargained for as they tried to enjoy a nice day out on the course.

Hopefully the crocodile is the final bit of extraordinary wildlife they see on their trip.
