Rory McIlroy won the Masters on Sunday to give him a victory at the one major where he had never previously won. He was overcome with emotions afterwards.
McIlroy shot scores of 66 on both Friday and Saturday to surge up the leaderboard. He looked like he was going to finally get the career grand slam until blowing a putt on 18 and being forced into a playoff with Justin Rose. But McIlroy prevailed in the playoff to get the victory — something he had been waiting over a decade for.

McIlroy had choked at the Masters in 2011, and he had his choke job at the 2023 U.S. Open looming in the back of his mind. He didn’t let any of that history stand in his way of rallying to win on Sunday.
This is McIlroy’s fifth major overall and first since 2014.
