TGL Teases Expansion: New Venues and LIV Players

After a successful showing in their first week, the TGL already has their eyes set on the future, specifically in the world of simulation golf. It was reported early this week that the newly-founded league has already eyed opportunities to expand and grow its reach.

Hitting the Ground Running

The TGL garnered good reviews and viewership in its maiden voyage last week. With the league debut of Tiger Woods still to come later on Tuesday as a part of this week's matchup, things seems to be off to a strong start and TGL is trying to build off of that momentum.

The league has based its self in the SoFi Center, the structure built specifically for the league in Palm Beach Gardens for the inaugural season. But it looks to expand further, heading to additional golf-centric markets in the future. The most notable locations from the report would be Scottsdale, Las Vegas, and Southern California.

This makes complete sense as a large majority of the league's players currently reside in the areas, and targeted players for the league are also set up base in these areas. Florida was just a logical starting point for the first year, but as additional infrastructure grows, so will the need to grow the field. That's where the idea of LIV golfers being invited to the league in future years is derived.

Though the league is young, they have a vision. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy had a vision when putting this endeavor together and the plan of action has been successful thus far. I do not foresee a timeline on expansion at this time though. It would make sense to maybe spend another year in Florida alone and build the product rather than expand too quickly.

I also believe players outside the PGA Tour including LIV players, will want to see the potential growth and interest grow following the completion of the first year before making any decisions regarding membership. Most notable to watch though would be Jon Rahm. Rahm has previously committed to the league prior to his decision to move to LIV Golf in 2024. That seems the most logical player to make the jump into the TGL field in the future. But for now, week two kicks off on Tuesday.
