Tiger Woods Leaves PGA Tour Winner Mysterious Phone Call
Jack Gruber-USA TODAY Sports

Karl Vilips is having a an eventful 2025.

The 23-year-old Australian PGA Tour professional became the first brand ambassador for Tiger Woods' golf apparel company, Sun Day Red last month.

After competing at Stanford, the same program that Woods played for, he made a name for himself by claiming Rookie of the Year honors on the Korn Ferry Tour last season, which led to him earning his PGA Tour card.

“Tiger Woods was my idol growing up, and knowing that he drives the insights and meticulousness behind Sun Day Red’s apparel and footwear gives us a unique edge that no other company can match,” Vilips said after coming aboard with the brand. “I couldn’t be more proud to be the brand’s first official ambassador.”

Vilips then became an official PGA Tour winner this week by capturing the Puerto Rico Open title.

Playing at Grand Reserve Golf Club, he delivered an impressive performance with rounds of 65, 67, 66 and 64, finishing at 26 under par for a three-shot victory on Sunday.

The win came in just his fourth career PGA Tour start, at one of the Tour’s Additional Events.

After finishing his round, Vilips shared with reporters that he noticed missed calls, a voicemail and a text from an unsaved number.

It revealed to be Tiger Woods.

“Yeah, it was tough because I got on my phone after the round and I was just scrolling, like who was texting me? I think I got one from a random number that called me as well,” Vilips shared on Sunday. “Then there was a voicemail saying it’s Tiger and I couldn’t like process it in the moment, I was just trying to — I’ll get back to that later. That’s pretty cool.”
