I spoke with Wesley Bryan this morning and confirmed that he has been suspended for participating in the LIV Duels event in Miami.
I asked Wesley about his time on tour, whether he regrets playing the event, and what's next. https://t.co/QwOd3VJbDQ
The most beneficial thing for the game of golf is to grow the game itself. Without a doubt, Wesley Bryan has taken a unique route, albeit a successful one. The PGA Tour winner has expanded his channel with his brother, George, to unimaginable heights, much like Good, Good and Grant Horvat, the latter ironically receiving an invitation to play in a future PGA Tour event.
The fact of the matter is that this event was supposed to be in good fun. It was designed to draw attention to the game, regardless of where you may stand. To consider this a case of "playing for LIV," deeming suspension, shows how obtuse Tour leadership truly seems to be. After an all-time high with Rory McIlroy winning the Masters this past weekend, the PGA Tour managed to sink itself back to a low.
Chad Mumm and his team have done an impressive job of bringing golf to life through Full Swing and the Creator Classic. It offers a fun perspective on golf, making the game more enjoyable and gaining exposure. Wesley Bryan has played a significant role in that growth. However, today, the PGA Tour seems to have missed an opportunity by inadvertently undermining a positive aspect it had in its usual manner.
I do appreciate many of the initiatives the Tour has undertaken in recent months. However, considering Wesley Bryan’s participation in a LIV YouTube video as "playing for LIV" seems a bit misguided. One can only hope to see improvements in this area. It's unfortunate to see a valuable opportunity being overlooked once more.
