The hits keep coming for Kris Bryant, the former NL MVP who hasn’t played more than 80 games in a single season since 2021. Bryant is on the 10-day IL with a degenerative back problem, continuing the rash of injuries for the Colorado Rockie.

Bryant on IL

Colorado placed 1B/DH Kris Bryant on the 10-day IL with lumbar degenerative disc disease, a back problem manager Bud Black said will need to be managed for the future.

Bryant hasn’t been hitting well in 2025, what’s become a recurring theme for the former NL MVP over the years. The 33-year-old slashed .154/.195/.205 (.400 OPS) with six hits over his first 41 plate appearance.

Black stated the absence should be a short one.

The Rockies selected the contract of Braxton Fulford to temporarily replace Bryant. Jeff Criswell, who’s recovering from UCL reconstruction surgery and done for the season, was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Ozuna out against Blue Jays

The Braves won’t have Marcell Ozuna available during their series against the Blue Jays.

Ozuna will miss the entire series, as he returned to Atlanta to have an MRI for a hip injury. The Braves’ designated hitter is considered day-to-day.

Scherzer’s continued thumb soreness

Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer will see a thumb specialist again, as the soreness in his right thumb has remained.

Scherzer has been playing catch during his recovery process. But to no surprise, manager John Schneider stated that the longer Scherzer’s out, the longer it’ll take for him to get back to the MLB level.

The focus, though, per Schneider is to make sure he’s healthy when he returns.

Other injury news

Mets outfielder Jose Siri was diagnosed with a fractured left tibia, days after he fouled a ball off his shin and needed to be carted off the field in Sacramento. New York will place him on the IL on April 15 retroactive to the injury.

The Reds placed left-hander Sam Moll on the IL retroactive to April 11, 2025. Moll has been sidelined with a left shoulder impingement.

San Diego is down another outfielder, as Brandon Lockridge joined Jackson Merrill on the injured list. Lockridge is dealing with a left hamstring strain.

The Padres recalled Connor Joe to replace Lockridge on the roster. Joe was signed by the Padres in February.
