Jesse Chavez is back with the Atlanta Braves, as the team moved him up on March 31. The move was one of several promotions on the 31st. Orioles outfielder Dylan Carlson is back in the Majors, as Colton Cowser will miss the next few weeks with a thumb fracture.
The Braves promoted Jesse Chavez from Triple-A, roughly a little over a week after Atlanta signed him to a Minor League deal. Chavez first signed with the Rangers during the winter.
In a corresponding move, the Braves designed Hector Neris for assignment. Neris conceded five runs on March 30 against the Padres in his first work of the regular season. During that outing, his velocity was down one MPH (91.9 MPH) compared to where he was on average in 2024 (92.7 MPH).
Neris was signed by the Braves in March.
Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser hit the IL with a left thumb fracture, which will keep him out for six to eight weeks. Baltimore promoted Dylan Carlson, sent to Triple-A to begin 2025, to replace Cowser.
Carlson was signed by the O’s in January and hit well in camp, batting .321/.500/.571 (1.071 OPS) with two home runs over 18 games. However, the Orioles had enough depth in the outfield between Cowser, Tyler O’Neill, Cedric Mullins, Heston Kjerstad, and Ramon Laureano.
Laureano was also signed during the offseason and performed better offensively last year with Atlanta.
The Twins designated Randy Dobnak for assignment after he threw 5.1 innings on March 30. Dobnak ate it after Bailey Ober was taken out early. Darren McCaughan was selected from St. Paul (AAA) to replace Dobnak.
Aaron Civale was placed on the IL with a strained left hamstring. Milwaukee called up reliever Grant Anderson to replace Civale. Anderson is a funky reliever with a very low arm slot (-3° in 2024) and a heavy sinker.
Kansas City promoted infielder Tyler Tolbert to fill the roster spot of Dairon Blanco, on the IL with an right Achilles injury. The 27-year-old Tolbert has a career Minor League OPS of .692 OPS but is versatile and fast.
Tolbert stole 50+ bases in three Minor League seasons. He saw time at second, short, plus all three outfield positions.
