A current look at the Braves 40-man roster

To this point, the Braves have not made any splash acquisitions, but they’ve made a ton of smaller transactions that haven’t been the easiest to keep up with if you’re not locked into your phone 24/7. So, let’s take a look at the current outlook of the Braves 40-man roster and see what moves need to be made before the start of the season.

Pitchers

1. Ian Anderson
2. Aaron Bummer
3. Dylan Dodd
4. Bryce Elder
5. Max Fried
6. Daysbel Hernandez
7. Raisel Iglesias
8. Joe Jimenez
9. Pierce Johnson
10. Ray Kerr
11. Dylan Lee
12. Reynaldo Lopez
13. Tyler Matzek
14. A.J. Minter
15. Charlie Morton
16. Penn Murfee
17. Angel Perdomo
18. AJ Smith-Shawver
19. Jackson Stephens
20. Spencer Strider

That’s a full arsenal of pitchers; however, at least three of them will be headed to the 60-day IL once the season begins — Penn Murfee, Ian Anderson, and Angel Perdomo — freeing up three spots on the 40-man roster.

Catchers

1. Sean Murphy
2. Travis d’Arnaud

Barring injury, these will be the only two catchers on the Opening Day roster, and hopefully, it stays that way the entire season.  The Braves will likely add a third catcher to the mix that may take up a place on the 40-man roster as a safety net, but for now, the current 40-man roster sits at 25.

Infielders

1. Ozzie Albies
2. Austin Riley
3. Vaughn Grissom
4. Orlando Arcia
5. Matt Olson

By recently outrighting David Fletcher to Gwinnett, the Braves were able to clear another 40-man roster spot. However, unless they add another infielder, one could reasonably expect him back in the fold by the time Opening Day rolls around. But for now, the 40-man roster sits at 30.

Outfielders

1. Ronald Acuña Jr.
2. Marcell Ozuna
3. Jarred Kelenic
4. Forrest Wall
5. Michael Harris II

As of now, the Braves current 40-man roster sits at 35 players, but with at least three pitchers heading to the 60-day IL before the start of the season, there are really eight spots available, meaning plenty more moves are coming down the pike in the coming months.
