Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto had a breakout 2024 campaign. In 155 games, he registered 5.1 bWAR and had a slash line of .249/.318/.443 for a .761 OPS. He looks to be a huge part of the next wave of Angels stars after the departure of superstar Shohei Ohtani last season.
In November of last season, Neto needed surgery to repair his right shoulder after an injury during the season. The injury occurred when he slid into second base during a game against the White Sox on Sept. 26. Neto tried to avoid surgery by rehabbing it, but when that didn't work, he opted for surgery following the conclusion of the season.
On Tuesday, the Angels announced the positive injury news that Neto is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees.
"INF Zach Neto is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A @SaltLakeBees tonight," the team wrote on X via its official public relations account.

MLB position players are allowed a maximum of 20 days on a rehab assignment before they must be called back up to the Majors or placed on the Injured List. This would seem to indicate that Neto is close to returning to the Angels' everyday lineup. These minor league games will be a good litmus test to see if he is ready to return to action without too much pain in his shoulder.
The Angels have managed to maintain a winning record without their young star thus far. After a loss to the White Sox on opening day, they have won each of their past three games, including one over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.
