The Atlanta Braves wrap up their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks today. The Braves are looking to complete the sweep with Spencer Schwellenbach on the mound facing Brandon Pfaadt. Ahead of today’s game, the Braves designated Jesse Chavez for assignment. The move makes room for right-handed pitcher Davis Daniel. Chavez, in two appearances with the Braves this season, posts a 6.00 ERA. He also posts a 2.33 WHIP, and three strikeouts in three innings. Daniel in three starts at Triple-A is 0-2 with a 4.63 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 11.2 innings.
Chavez is in his 18th big league season. In 655 career appearances, he is 51-65 with a 4.24 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 1039 strikeouts in 1137 innings. Last season, in 46 games with Atlanta, he was 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts in 63.1 innings. He’s spent six seasons with Atlanta, going 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 221 strikeouts in 223.1 innings.
Daniel last season pitched in the Los Angeles Angels organization. In 22 appearances with 21 coming as starts in Triple-A, he went 9-7. Daniel posted a 5.42 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, and 122 strikeouts in 118 innings. In six starts with the Angels, he went 1-4 with a 6.23 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts in 30.1 innings.
