Brewers sign SP Aaron Ashby to five-year extension

On Saturday, the Milwaukee Brewers signed left-handed starting pitcher Aaron Ashby to a five-year extension.

The deal locks Ashby through the 2027 season and includes club options for 2028 and 2029.

According to MLB Network's Joel Sherman, Ashby's new contract will pay the 24-year-old a guaranteed $20.5 million over five years.

"This is a person we feel really good about, and you add to that the exceptional talent he's displayed throughout his minor league career and now at the beginning of his major league career. It's really impressive," Brewers' general manager David Stearns said on Saturday. "We feel really good about investing in that type of person and player. He feels really good about the Brewers, and when you combine those two things, you're able to get to agreements like this that I think really benefit both sides."

In 18 games for the Brewers this season, Ashby has a 2-7 record with a 4.57 ERA over 69 innings.

Selected by Milwaukee in the fourth round of the 2018 MLB draft, Ashby made his major league debut in 2021, finishing 3-2 with a 4.55 ERA in 13 games.
