Chicago Cubs Roar Back, Walk Off Dodgers in Extras

The Chicago Cubs continue to be the hottest offense in baseball after completing an incredible comeback to walk off the Los Angeles Dodgers in extra innings on Tuesday.

The game had a back-and-forth quality similar to the contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Friday, with the Cubs surging ahead to a 7-4 lead in the fifth inning. The Cubs' offense was fueled by a five-spot in the first inning to answer the Dodgers' three-run homer from Tommy Edman.

Despite a costly error from Gage Workman in the first inning, Cubs' starter Shota Imanaga gave his team a great chance to win by recording 5 2/3 innings pitched with six strikeouts.

The game looked over after Pete Crow-Armstrong sent a thunderous home run into the right field bleachers in the bottom of the fifth, which was the 23-year-old's eleventh extra-base hit in his last nine games.

Tuesday was also Crow-Armstrong's seventh multi-hit game of the year, and he looks very comfortable at the plate lately.

Things looked secure until Brad Keller took the mound in the seventh, when he loaded the bags, surrendered five runs, and gave up the lead heading into the final innings. Luckily, the Cubs tapped into their clutch-hitting magic once again. Ian Happ set the table for yet another timely Kyle Tucker home run to put the Cubs within one run.

Miguel Amaya delivered the biggest swing of his career in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending a 388 foot home run into the basket in left field with two outs to tie the game at 10.

Two shutdown innings from newcomer Gavin Hollowell, who struck out Shohei Ohtani the same day he was called up from Iowa, and another from Porter Hodge in the tenth set the Cubs up for victory in the bottom of the 10th.

With speedy pinch runner Vidal Bruján at second base, Happ jumped on the first pitch to drive in the winning run, collecting his fourth hit of the game in the process.

It was an incredible victory and a testament to the 2025 Cubs' grit and determination to win. The Cubs also tied up their series with the defending World Series Champions with the win, with both teams besting each other three times this year. The winner of Wednesday night's contest will determine who takes the season series, and the Cubs will have southpaw Matthew Boyd on the mound. Boyd logged a quality start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on April 11.
