The Chicago White Sox look to bounce back from a blowout loss to the Athletics on Tuesday night. Before Wednesday’s game, they reshuffled their bullpen with two moves: The club designated right-handed pitcher Mike Clevinger for assignment and purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Steven Wilson from Triple-A Charlotte.
Prior to tonight’s game vs. the Athletics, the Chicago White Sox selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson from Class AAA Charlotte and designated right-hander Mike Clevinger for assignment.

Clevinger returned to the White Sox on a minor-league deal with a non-roster invite during the offseason. He broke camp with the team, making the Opening Day roster. A starting pitcher throughout his career, the White Sox attempted to convert him into a reliever—an experiment that quickly went off the rails.
Clevinger pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five earned runs, walking eight hitters, and striking out only three.
Wilson returns to the White Sox after the club tendered him a contract despite a rough 2024 campaign that included two trips to the injured list. The right-hander tossed 34.2 innings with a 5.71 ERA last season.
During the offseason, Chicago designated Wilson for assignment to make room for left-handed reliever Brandon Eisert, whom they claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. Wilson returned to the organization and has pitched for the Charlotte Knights to start the 2025 season.
Clevinger couldn’t find the strike zone, and his return in 2025 confused many after a subpar, injury-riddled 2024 campaign. Should he clear waivers, the White Sox can outright him to a minor-league affiliate.
On the other hand, Wilson has a pretty low bar to clear considering Clevinger’s rough start.
