Cubs Announce 2025 Coaching Staff Under Craig Counsell

The Chicago Cubs have officially announced their coaching staff for the 2025 season under manager Craig Counsell. The lineup includes both returning coaches and new additions to the team.

Returning to their roles are:

  • Ryan Flaherty as bench coach
  • Dustin Kelly as hitting coach
  • Tommy Hottovy as pitching coach
  • Chris Young as bullpen coach
  • Juan Cabreja as staff assistant
  • Jonathan Mota as Major League coach, focusing on infield defense
  • Alex Smith as Major League coach specializing in data development and process

New additions to the coaching staff include:

  • Quintin Berry as third base coach
  • Jose Javier as first base coach
  • Casey Jacobson as assistant pitching coach
  • A.J. Lewis as staff assistant

Berry, a former major league outfielder, joins the Cubs after serving as the Milwaukee Brewers' minor-league outfield and baserunning coordinator. Javier comes from the New York Yankees organization, where he was the defensive coach for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jacobson previously worked as the Tampa Bay Rays' minor league pitching coordinator.

In the strength and conditioning department, the Cubs have made a few internal promotions:

  • Kevin Poppe is now the head strength and conditioning coach
  • Mark Weisman takes on the role of assistant strength and conditioning coach
