After an offensive outburst Thursday night, the Chicago Cubs struggled to generate much offense on Friday, falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Right-hander Jameson Taillon took the mound for the Cubs, and things did not go his way. After the Cubs scored a run in the top of the second inning, thanks to a Pete Crow-Armstrong RBI double, the Diamondbacks responded immediately.

Homering the night before, Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez, known for his success against the Cubs, gave fans a little déjà vu. In the bottom of the second inning, the right-handed hitter smacked a two-run homer, giving his team a 2-1 lead over the Cubs.

Speaking of déjà vu, Suárez hit another two-run homer off Taillon in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring Diamondbacks left fielder Pavin Smith once again. They added another run in the fourth thanks to an RBI single from shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, giving them a 5-1 lead.

For Suárez, his home runs were the 33rd and 34th of his career against the Cubs, the most he’s hit against any team.

The Diamondbacks added a run in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh. The Cubs’ bats remained quiet for most of the night, resulting in an 8-1 loss.

Taillon took the loss on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six earned runs on nine hits, with no walks and one strikeout. Right-handers Eli Morgan and Brad Keller appeared from the bullpen, each recording three strikeouts during their outings.

At the plate, the Cubs managed just three hits. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Seiya Suzuki each recorded doubles, while Dansby Swanson added a single.
