Diamondbacks’ Sunday showdown with Astros moved to ESPN primetime
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks, boasting an MLB-best 15-5 record over their last 20 games, have had their September 8th showdown against the Houston Astros moved to Sunday night on ESPN.

This game, set to take place at Minute Maid Park, will mark the final contest in a three-game series.

Last year, the Diamondbacks closed out their regular season by being swept by the Astros, a sweep that played a significant role in shaping the postseason. With the sweep, the Astros managed to edge out the Rangers for the top spot in the AL West.

From there, the story unfolded dramatically. After heading back home with a 3-2 series lead over the Rangers in the ALCS, the Astros failed to close out Texas. This allowed the Rangers to advance to the World Series, where they defeated the Diamondbacks in six games.

Now, the Diamondbacks, still seeking vengeance for how last season ended, have quickly become one of the most exciting teams in the league. From enduring 100 losses in 2021 to reaching the World Series in 2023, and now holding one of the best records in baseball in 2024, the D-backs are finally getting the recognition they deserve, with ESPN moving them into primetime.

Originally, the first pitch was scheduled for 11:10 AM, but it has now been moved to 4:00 PM Arizona time.
