The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Chicago Cubs in a two-game series at Wrigley Field to finish their road trip with a disappointing 2-3 record.

It represented the third and final series between the teams in the regular season, a rare occurrence for non-divisional opponents.

“It is,” manager Dave Roberts said when asked if the Dodgers finishing their season series with the Cubs in April is peculiar.

“And some of the teams in our division, we don’t see until June. To know we’re going to be done with these guys in a couple weeks for the whole season, is unique.

“I try not to overthink the logic behind scheduling, because obviously it’s a tough job, but it is interesting how certain teams we’re going to be done with and certain teams we don’t see for quite some time.”

As Roberts noted, it is a bit strange that the Dodgers have already played seven games against the Cubs before the month of April comes to a close.

It is even more odd that L.A. won’t play some of the teams in the National League West until June, including the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.

The scheduling is part of balanced changes MLB implemented during the 2023 season where all 30 teams play each other at least once.

Dodgers-Cubs season series recap

The Dodgers began the 2025 season by sweeping the Cubs in the Tokyo Series before going on to lose four of their next five head-to-head meetings.

The Dodgers dropped two of three to the Cubs earlier this month at Dodger Stadium, which included a lopsided 16-0 loss in the middle game of the series.

With two more defeats at Wrigley Field, the Dodgers consequently lost the season series to the Cubs. That could loom large if the teams finish with the same record this year as the Cubs would own the head-to-head tiebreaker for playoff seeding.
